Hey everyone, i have finally gotten around to starting a P&M blog (well, i suppose i needed to start painting and modelling first ), after being inspired by so many other blogs, which are all full of amazing work. I have finally decided its time to really get down and paint my collection properly.

I have painted a few bits and pieces before, but nothing really finished (I have one Razorback that has been painted in 3 different schemes and stripped, its currently just primed black now....) The painting i did a year or two ago was mostly dry-brushing, with my Chaos i just dry-brushed red/s on top of primed black vehicles and infantry. I got a bit involved painting Tau (which wasn't even mine) although that was mostly dry brushing, and about a year ago i mostly painted a Trygon because i liked the model, although i never finished it and a friend is using it as he actually plays Nids.

I have a few things that i can and will be getting on with in the near future: (in planned order)
Chaos: Mainly Nurgle stuff (or Nurgle themed) but in a diffrent style
Blood Angels/Space Marines: Got some Assault Marines, planning on building up a DoA army, but will maybe just try them out with some of my Marines in the near future
Diorama: planning a small Diorama, with Guardsmen.
LOTR: Including Harad army (Mamuk as well), Balrog, Fellowship. Want to try and make a moria style board either for display or playing on. But no idea if i will actually manage this...

Here is my first model: (Sorry in advance if Pics aren't great, i only currently have access to a Kodak 'HD' camcorder type camera, a small one, and its photos (and filming) aren't great)

Starting off something like this.

Then in progress.

And ending up like:

Its not 100% complete, but will probably do for next weekend (as i have so much more to paint) and i will try to touch it up a bit after that.
Painting wise, (Primed white over the red, don't have anything to strip the paint with atm) i started with Graveyard earth, the first coat ended up being almost a wash, second coat was a bit thicker, then third coat was straight from the pot. Was then all dry-brushed Rotting Flesh, before a Ogryn flesh wash all over. The green stuffed bits where then washed with Thraka green, and lightly dry-brushed with bleached bone, as was the sand bits (It hasn't come out very well in the photo). I will add a couple of Nurgle icons on it soon (I have the GW ones) I quite like it, during the process i thought it would end up terrible, but not too upset with the outcome now. Its a bit different as well, its probably been done, but i haven't seen brown Nurlge before. For more tanks i do have plans, like adding tentacles, icons, Nurglings, maybe horns, skulls etc to make the model a bit more interesting, this was mainly the test piece.

Some more photos of the finished piece.

There are more WIP pics in my Gallery if you want to have a look. Any advice on how to improve the overall look, of the rhino (and future tanks), also wether or not you think the Plague Marines should be painted differently (I did think paint the tanks in the dark colour, and infantry in a light colour, but not sure if that will necessarily work well). And i hope to bring you more updates very soon.

I like the brown you've chosen - I think it will go well on the marines as well (If you choose to make them the same). Nice work so far, and Im eager to see more

Bit of a shameless bump and (picture-less) update.
I have my lists for next weekend, so have a rough schedule of what i need to do this week.
By Monday night, i want to have made/converted/modelled (all in various states at the moment):
2 More Rhinos
2 Dreads
14 Plague Marines
8 Zerkers
And hopefully get that all basecoated, and if i spend enough time the rhinos 'fully' painted And the Dreads most of the way there.
I should get the rest of my stuff on Tuesday, so by end of Tuesday i will have made:
2 Vindicators
Predator
Daemon Prince.

I think i can get all the tanks done. And at least the Plague Marines, i then want the Zerkers to be at least red.
I have made some progress today, although not as much as i had hoped so will make up for it tomorrow, and shall have some pics then.

Update with some pics now:

*Bigger images in Gallery*

So not as much progress as i would have liked, don't think i have any chance of getting them ready for next Saturday with non warhammer related things i have to do.

As you can see from the second pic, i have changed the CCW. cutting of the chainsword and replacing with the knife, i think just makes them look a bit more like Plague Marines. I still need to do some green stuffing/drilling/sand ing on the CMS (made 7 so far...) All 8 Zerkers are made as well.

The Dreadnought is wried. I didn't know what to do on his face area, so just went a bit mad. Then added a bit more green stuff on the leg. the CCW was converted before when this Dreads was set to become Bjorn the Fell Handed, so i had Space Wolve power weapons where the chain sword ends are now. But swapped them over as they didn't look right. I'm not 100% happy with it though. And the Plasma Cannon is just a Space Marine Devastator Plasma that i attached at the same time it was going to become Bjorn.

Both Rhinos are converted up, i might start painting them now. One has more green stuff, one has less. the one with more (red one) i also tried something i also planned along time ago, putting in skulls in the side bit. It hasn't worked as well as i wanted, but i think its alright, and if i get the skulls painted differently to the green stuffed bit, then i think it could look quite nice.

And on the grey rhino, that is a bunch of skulls from the Skull Bits on the GW site. I also have some Nurglings, i might put them on there, but will paint them separately i think. And try to paint them to the same kind of effect they are in the pics on GW site.
Thanks for looking, and should have another update tomorrow.

Hello again,
Not wanting to force a couple more replies (well i do ) but i need a couple of bits of advice.
Firstly, the bits of battle damage i have modelled (its not especially clear in the images, but its there, a few holes with some scratches by the side, and just some general scratching) How should i deal with that painting wise? on the first Rhino, i just left it, but should i actually paint it in the standard battle damage way? (Black with Silver).
And should i paint the back of the Dreads legs (The metal bits) like this:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/222092.page#732532

I think it being rusty would fit in with the theme a bit more, but not 100% how well it would work (so essentially asking if anyone has done it before, and how much rust is too much).

Plus any general advice on my technique would be great, i know its not wonderful. But i was hoping it was good enough. I'm growing more fond of my first Rhino the more i look at it, so am quite happy. But still i go and look at some other Nurgle stuff and think, my stuff isn't anywhere near as good or as inventive as there.
Thanks

Long time no update

I don't have much for you today, as i ran out of the main paint i need for my tanks, so only got some base coating done last night (not completed) and finished off some models. Later on today i plan to do some more Nurgleish details on my Vindicators, and start painting my Zerkers. Maybe the Chosen, but i'm not sure what scheme i'm doing them in.

Anyway here is a couple of images of a Greater Daemon (i didn't paint, just did the basing, any tips on that would be great) i'm not even sure where the model is from either....

Hope to bring you some more updates today or tomorrow

Hey - loving the green stuff on the tanks, I need to try and get better with working it. Not so keen on the Greater Deamon personally, is it a custom sculpt or an old mini? Hope you're not offended by me asking / saying that

I'm not sure what it is, when my step-dad took over a FLGS it was left there, and no one ever claimed it, he was using it in his Daemon army, but its all Slaanesh now, so i have it. Its not my favourite model, and its quite small, and i didn't paint it, its just Greater Deamons cost too much, for a model i'm not going to be using frequently...

I've been doing a bit more work on my Chaos recently, so hopefully will have some pics in the next couple of days
