I want to start a 1500 points army but I don't no how to start it

Well, you will need troop choices. So considering there is only one choice, how about a box of tactical marines and a black templar upgrade sprue? Use the Close combat arms, a dude with a powerfist, and a dude with a meltagun. Should make a good start.

Why use the the chaos arms

Get a space marine battleforce, and either get a few upgrade boxes or just buy parts and pieces on Ebay (very nice if you only want some of the upgrade bits), and an Emperor's Champion. That'll give you 15 initiates (20 if you use regular backpacks on the assault marines), 5 neophytes, and a rhino.

How many points is that.

Not many. It depends on what you do with them but maybe ~350pts, 490 if you take the champ.

BT armies aren't cheap in my experience. you need a lot of bodies and the bits are expensive

Well, when I started, this is how I did it with my templar. I was lucky enough to be joining the game with a friend of mine who wanted to play Orks. We both dropped $90 on the Black Reach box, and swapped pieces. I then purchased the Space Marine battle box. From there, I have purchased my Helbrecht and command squad. (Though I have some Rhinos, Land Raiders, and Land Speeders a friend of mine is not using at this point in time so I haven't needed to buy vehicles)

So I would try something along those lines. If you can find a friend to split the black reach box it is the best way to go. You'll get a ton of marines for infantry, two captains, two dreadnoughts, ten terminators. It's a great start. From there if you get the battleforce you'll have enough marines to field even a 2K army, you'll just need to buy tanks. But you'll have everything else ready to go (Might want some bits though if you can get them, swap with friends so you can get the marines built the way you want / need)
