Subject: Big rulebook versus small rulebook

Hey,
After some troubles, I have gathered enough money to buy one of the two rulebooks.
However, I only play around 12 games per year.
So if you were about to buy one of the two 40k rulebooks, which one would you choose?
The small one comes in a box (72 Euro) with models I don't need and a lot less fluff.
However, this rulebook is easier to carry around.
Buy the small rulebook for around 30 euro on Ebay and such. Then they don't include the models.
The big one is cheaper (50 Euro), includes more fluff but doesn't come with models and is a lot harder to carry around due it's massive size.

If you don't play a lot of games don't bother with the small one. It's just useful for traveling.

Buy the big book if you're interested in the fluff and extra stuff. Buy the small book if you just need the rules. I want the big book but it's heavy for travel I prefer the small booklet.

I'd say you should buy the big book, considering if you only play about 12 games it shouldn't be too much trouble to carry it around; sounds like you'll just be playing at your house/friend's house/local GW where they have Rulebooks anyway.

I'd say go for the small one - the big one just has a ton of fluff, for gaming, the small one is much more useful.

If you got the AoBR box, you could always use those other models to convince more of your friends to start playing. Maybe raise that game count up some.
|
"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Thanks for all the advice, although I would love to game more, it's going to be hard.
I have to finish school, keep up with three jobs, do sport and I like it to hang out with friends sometime.
I've read the small rulebook twice (borrowed from a friend) and the reason I want to buy one is because I got into an argument with another friend. I want to prevent this by buying a rulebook.

I keep the big one at home, and keep the little one in my model case.
If you want a cheap mini one, there's TONNES on Ebay.

I'd go with this option. Buy the small one on Ebay or another site. Don't bother buying a whole AoBR kit for the small rulebook.
