Hello, it's been a long time - 5 years - since I played a game of 40K - what are the thoughts around here on 5th edition. I'm going to pick up the rule book today the local game shop. I have pretty good armies of tyrannids, space wolves, and grey knights, but my son wants to start an Imperial Guard army - any thoughts on strengths and weaknesses and must have units in the new Imperial Guard - it looks a lot more rugged than the old guard. Going to try and pick up that book today too. Thaks

Lemon Russ all the way. An army with a core of them, and some Devildogs. It's also brilliantly fun, a tank based army.

Severals ways to play IG: infantry blobs, mechanized with tanks and chimeras, I personally liking the look of Air Cavalry, Vendettas and Valks running around dropping troops on objectives and behind enemy lines, supported by some LRBT, Hydras and Heavy Weapons back home.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

In the "old days" had fun with 'Nids and Wolves - scouts appearing behind a defiler and giving it a meltagun enema - lightning claws and frost blades - great fun...
