I think he's one of the C'tan who is meant to have been imprisoned on Mars by the Emperor and it might be him who is worshipped as the Omnissiah. He is meant to have power over machines. That's all I know, but I'm sure there are others here who know much more.

The void dragon is arguable the most powerul C'tan, and is what gives the admech their tech abilities and technology. He is imprisioned beneath the surface of Mars, and is worshipped as the machine as the machine god, although few admech know he is really there. He is currently dormant, in hibernation, and a trusted guardian who is changed frequently (they die) goes down to the center of Mars where he is imprisioned to make sure he doesn't wake up, and sacrifice themselves to ensure that he doesn't. The Emperor defeated him in medieval times, after a Blackstone fortress blasted him on the Earth, he then started to kill everything in sight until the Emperor engaged him in combat, and drive his silver tipped lance in the Void Dragon, severely weakening him, the Emperor then cast the Void Dragon to Mars, and imprisioned him beneath the surface, maybe knowing that one day humanity would need the technology of the admech to survive. If the Void Dragon were to awaken, then it would hit the fan basically. The necrons he can create are the most powerful, as is he the (arguably) the most powerful C'tan, the admech would split itself in half, with loyalties to the Machine God, the Emperor and humanity causing the schism. Yeah, it's pretty complicated.

Nail head, meet hammer.
I'd advise you to read one of Graham McNeil's Horus Heresy novels, Mechanicum. Not only is it one of the best ( IMO) of the series, you get a lot of information on what's really going happening on mars.

Nonononono.
If anything, rumor has it that they're removing the C'tan from the new Necrons codex.

The Void Dragon isn't even in the Necron codex; save perhaps for a small mention.

Incorrect. They're are rumors that that the C'tan might not be playable in the codex, or that they might be necron lords granted that C'tan's power, or even that the C'tan will become Apocalypse only units.
If they do remove them as playable characters, they will still be in the fluff though.

I hope this is true, and they use the space to fleshout (sorry) the Necrons as a whole.

Let's not forget the Necrons apparently know about the Void Dragon what with their attempt to land on Mars and all htat.
The fact that the Necrons COULD get to Mars passed all of Sol's defenses is scary enough to me....
