I have this posted over at my blog here: http://sistersofbattle.org/?page_id=222 but I also thought I would share on Dakka as well

It is a quick and dirty walk through on how to magnetize an immolator turret.

This project is fairly simple, and not very time consuming. You will need about 30 minutes to perform this project.

Materials needed:
1/8th inch drill bit x1
1/8th inch x 1/16th inch cylinder magnet x8
Superglue/other kind of glue
Xacto knife

After you have gotten the materials needed for this project you will need to take each of your weapons. All of them will be done in the same fashion so I feel I only need to show it in one form.

As you see from the picture above, each of the weapons have a hole already on them. You will take the drill bit and expand the existing hole in order to fit the magnet in properly. At this point you will need to pick the direction that the magnet will sit. You want them all to attach in the same direction so that they all hold together well. An easy way to ensure that everything is done in a similar direction is to use the Xacto knife to scratch the side of the magnets that would mark the direction they should all be held in.

If done correctly, what you should have is what is above. You have a set of weapons that have the magnets sitting flush in the holes that you have created.

As you can see the Xacto knife is pointing to the stub that is sticking out of the turret. You are going to cut this off flush with the hull.

What you should have is what you see above. You will have the stub cut off and it will now be flush the the turret. Now you need to take the drill bit and drill out from the center point where the stub had been. You want to drill down deep enough so that the magnet would be flush with the edge of the turret.

If done correctly, you should end up with a flush mounting point for the turret weapons.
As you can see a fairly simple, but effective way to add more life to your immolator.

Pretty new to magnets.
Can you tell me where to find the drills. Do they need to be a special kind or just from the home improvemnt store?

Just any drill bit will work. I got a set out of the bargin bin for cheap and the work great. I like to use the cordless dremel. Make a small indentaion to help guide the bit. Turn the dremel on low and take your time you need to put a little pressure on it but not too much. Practice on a piece of sprue to get the feel of it before working on your model

They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mold them, And in the furnace of war I shall forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armor shall I clad them, and with the mightiest of guns will they be armed. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

Just go to your hardware store and pick one up, or even a small set so you have options if you want to use with other magnets. You can just hand turn them for this project.

^ I agree 100% with this. Take your time, put a guide point onto what you are going to be drilling into and watch your fingers. There are also some small "drill presses" that you can get for a dremel that will make life easier as well.

If you have patience hand drilling works to just very slow.

I would recommend that with this project. The holes are already almost the right size, you just have to expand them a little bit. So hand drilling would not be a difficult task.
