I was in an argument with some friends yesterday when I tried to shoot at a Zoanthrope which was in cover in some building.

The rule state that Monstrous creature work like vehicule in that they need to have 50% of their body in cover to have a cover save.

The argument was over "is it 50% of the model or 50% of its total surface".

Because since a zoanthrope as 75% of its surface on its head does it count as in cover if you can see its whole head?

So what do you think, can you shoot a zoanthrope in the head or if you can't because its flimsy body is behind some concrete wall?

ps: This is just a funny question since I know that: 1 Zoanthrope are not Monstrous creature, they are a brood so its their number of model
that count not its suface for cover purpose. and 2 it is 50% of the model, by logic the thing is moving so it might not be its head that is showing.
But we have a good laugh arguing it for fun sake yesterday, so I though I'd give you the laught too. :-)

Eldar from the Ixialen Craftworld (6000pts) / Chaos from the Bloody dawn company (5000pts) / Imperial Guard from the Minerva 3rd Battalion (3000pts) / Crimson Drop compagny (BA) 2500 pts
No my avatar is not one of my unit, its a very nice work of conversion wouldn't you say?

The Zoathrope is an infantry model. they can get cover as follows.

1) It is standing in area terrain

2) if ANY part of their "body" has LOS blocked to it. The Body is the Head, Torso, Arms and legs.

So essentially it is 1% not 50% for a zoanthrope.

As you stated Zoanthropes are not MC's. This also means that you do not have to have 50% of the model covered to claim a cover save. It could have just one foot/claw/talon covered, and be able to claim a cover save. However why would it matter, as it's invul save is better than most cover saves....?

As airmang mentioned, why even bother worrying about cover unless it's to deny a shot in the first place. Their 3++ is better than any cover save Nids can receive so.. yeah

This, by visibility.

Get down and look can you see more than 50% of it's body from more than 50% of your unit?

If yes, then no cover.

If no, then Cover.

If not sure/opponent disagrees, then Cover; 1 less(4+ becomes 5+)

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Which is all kind of a side point, since Zoanthropes aren't Monstrous Creatures, and thus qualify for a cover save very easily, under all the myriad ways non-MC, non-Vehicle units qualify for cover.
