Hey guys
I tied to get into Fantasy years ago with Vampire counts, but due to various reasons, not least being I had no one to play against, I never got far. My brother has gotten into fantasy hard (has a few armies already but no one to play against) so I figured I'd get back into it with Vampire counts.
Having a gander at the VC stuff on the GW site, I saw the Battalion box. First thing I noticed was the price - a far cry from 40k battleforces, there is nearly a saving of 50% in Australia. Is it a good starting point? There's 4 core units in there, so I was thinking that plus a lord would be a good place to get started with the army.

The vc battalionisgreat, you will find you will probably use 2 of them fully as you really do need at least one block of smellier ( for the banner) and ghoul core are awesome. The only thing you might not use is the second corpse cart, and that could be made into a placeholder for zombies

I was going to theme it around Lahmian vampires anyway, so at most I've only be running one unit of zombies. The rest would be skeletons.

Ah, well then you would only need one battalion and fill out the rest with skellies and grave guard

I do want to run Blood Knights, but I want to stick with the Lahmian theme. Are there any good alternative mounted female miniatures that would make decent female Blood Knights?

I don't care for the battalion set because it doesn't provide you with what you will probably use the most. However with that said it is not a bad buy because you will eventually use all of the minis in the set. What I mean by that is most VC players will only use zombies when they raise them in the game (never buy them initially). I personally only use skeletons as a bunker for my general, but I do use them. I field mostly ghouls as my core as they have more bang for the buck then skeletons. I rarely use a corpse cart but have on occasion (and it is a beautiful looking model).
My army generally consists of Vampires, Ghouls, 10 skeletons as a bunker (roughly), Grave Guard and a Black Coach if playing a lot of points. I also use ethereals (wraiths ) Vargulfs occasionally.
Good luck!!

I'm not trying to come up with a hard as nails list right now, since I'm trying tog et into the game. I haven't ever played a game of fantasy, despite trying to get into it a couple of times.
Basically I want to make a quick, cheap army. And the battalion, an extra box of skellies and a box of grave guard, with 2 vampires, will run me under $150au and let me make a 1000 point army to start playing against my brother. After experimenting with a basic list for a while I'll start trying to build better lists.
Mostly, I can't really make a hard as nails list that works for me yet because I haven't played the game. Starting basic to learn the game then altering my army based on the rules and my regular opponents is what works for me, so getting a good core of models to start is the best idea.

Someone else recommended mantic stuff to me, but something about them rubs me the wrong way. They're not bad, I'm just not a fan.

For female blood knights i would suggest chaos knights with daemonettes of slanesh heads because i love the idea of a vampire with a mohawk. I personally haven't tried it but i have been told it works brilliantly.

Its called sarcasm. Really what does it taste like?

The problem with that is it goes counter to what Lahmians look like. They're more Egyptian, or at least like nobles.
I've found a lot of good female models from Reaper to use as combat vampires, particularly succubi for winged Lahmians.

No problem. I would really consider buying some extra ghouls instead of the extra box of skeletons though. Either way I hope you enjoy the game!!!

I decided to not try to make a 1000 point army as I just couldn't get the vampires I want into it, so I've decided to expand my initial army to 1500 points. I can't remember everything off the top of my head, but
I'm having trouble filling out the rest. Generally how I want it to work is the casty vampire is in a unit of skeletons which is near the Corpse Cart, who will create zombie units with the scepter and along with the fighty lord, reinforce units. By the time they reach combat, the skeletons would hopefully be at least 30 strong. The fighty lord sits with the grave guard.
The problem is I'm having problems filling out the rest of the army. I'm about 300 points shy of 1500, and I can't figure out what I want in the rest of it. I considered Ghouls, but they don't fit the theme and I want something really hard hitting. I considered Black Knights of Blood Knights, but both come out too expensive. Anyone have any ideas? Bearing in mind I'm not breaking from my theme of primarily skeleton based units since it's a Lahmian force?
While I appreciate that what I'm building isn't the most competitive, it's basically a starting point. Once I have the core down and my Lahmian vampires done, I'll be expanding a few dfferent ways with other units and other vampires, and Ghouls will probably be next. I'm just not starting there.
