Subject: Iron Warriors "HoverDisc" (bike) idea - FINISHED (pics)

I play my Warsmith as a MoTF with Conversion Beamer in games of Apoc
To make him a little more usable i was planning on mounting him on a bike, but a normal biek seems a bit mundane.
So i was thinking of making a hoverboard for him to skim around on.
My plan is to use a Large flying base with squares of 0.5mm plasticard stuck on the surface to make it look armoured. Around the underside edge i will use 6 vents from a necron destroyer as exhaist vents or thrusters. On the underside i was thinking of sticking on 3 or 4 of the small "fan" bits off the SM Droppod.
Once this is done i would them mount the whole lot on another large flying base (probably have to use some wire to support the additional weight through). Might also make it so the Lord can be detached to be on foot for diffeent game types.
I haven't got a pic other than the one in my head, but i'm thinking of a sort fo cross between a disc of tzeentch and a DE Helions skyboard.
So questions....
1) Do you think it would look alright? (i realise it might be a bit dubious fluff wise which is why i am mounting fans on it rather than saying it is anti-grav tech)
2) Would mounting it on a flying base be viewed as modelling for advantage as it will will be a little bit higher than normal (by maybe 1" or so). I only ever play in friendly games btu still woudln't want to be seen as TFG.
I would post pics once it is done, just waiting for bitz to be delivered.

Not a huge fan of hoverboards myself, especially to count-as a bike.
Have you considered a hoverbike instead? "Floating" a bit above the ground (not much higher than a normal bike), obviously looks more bike-like so people can tell what it is, pretty easy to model - just replace a bike's wheels with some hovery jet bits.

Its just the matter of having to then cut down the model which i am loathe to do (it's one of my faves).
I couldn't think of another name other than hoverboard (but all images of back to the future or spiderman 3 out of your mind).
Something like these is what i was thinking of (emphasis on the something) without the dafety raisl of course, he's a marine after all. I was also thinking about putting some display screens on it somehow as if he was monitoring the progress of the battle from it.

It certainly can't hurt to build a hoverdisc just to see how cool you can make it look - then you can decide whether it's cool enough to use as a new base for your Warsmith.
Hm, another option would be a bike (or hoverbike) with a marine chauffeur and a small platform on the back for the Warsmith to stand on? It would be bulkier than a normal bike though.

Well i have ordered the bitz so i will make the disc and see how it looks. i was hoping to try and make the warsmith model detachable anyway so i can still play him on foot if i need to.
I'll post some WIP pics once i get started.
Regardign the screen i was thinking of doing. Can anyone tell me if 40k has hologram technology? I can't remember seeing any in the fluff. I was thinking about using some very thin clear platic, stain it red somehow and trying to make it look like a data projection in front of the model. Not sure about this though.

Looks pretty good - you got the proportions right, he looks like he could believably ride around on a disc that size, and it's not too far from a bike size.
I'm worried about those sticky-outy spikes though, very chaosy but I suspect they'll get broken pretty easily :(

i wouldn't think so, they are pretty thick. They are the spikes off the chaos dozer blade. Chunky.
The disc itself is really easy to do. That hardest bit was chiselling out the hole on the top of a large flying base (the disc is two of them stuck together) for the model to stand in.
I ended up using a rotary tool with a cutting disc. The problem is that plastic flying bases dont so much cut as melt.

I have quite a lot of high bases, I usually consider the extra hight is balanced out by the extra difficulty finding cover. If your opponent has a problem with that then I would suggest having a regular marine bike model standing by that you can use as a 'marker' to replace him whenever LOS gets called into question.

As it stands the model has just under an inch advantage over a biek model. But that is with the standard flyign stalk. I will porbably chop the stalk down to bring the eye level closer to that of a biker model.

This conversion looks wicked. One sugestion though, change the basing of the model so it matches the disc. It looks kind of like he threw a pile of dirt onto his hover machine.

That base is off a different model.
His base will be similar but with a fine sand painted up like ash to match the rest of my IW army.
