Subject: Flying Stand Minimum Size?

When playing mechdar I usually have 9+ skimmers on the table, and when Im playing competively I put them all on flying bases and TBH its anoying as ball sacks. The skimmers dont want to stay on. Fire Prisms want to lean back giving it a really weird arch. Frankly I find flying bases to be one of the more obnoxious things I have to deal with, but because the rule book states my skimmers CAN NOT LAND IN COMBAT! I guess that I have to deal with it.
Question: Can I modify the GW flying stands to be 1-2mm High. That way the skimmers would be on a flying stand but they would have alot lower profile. Alot of GW models offer a few varrying heights of flying stand, one of which being very low. This makes me come to the conclusion that there isnt a set height that skimmers should be at.
Are there any rules to modifying flying bases?

They're covered by the same rules as any other base: use the base that the model is supplied with, or you need your opponent's permission to field it.

Yea but can you modify the stand?

The flying stand is a part of the base.

You get a choice of 4 different heights for the upright bit on the flying bases. Two short ones, two taller ones. This combined with the two base sizes gives you EIGHT different ways of combining them.
I use the shortest short ones for my tanks, and shorter of the two tall ones for my light skimmers. Tallest ones are purely for my jetbikes.

If you're having problems with how they sit on the base, that's really easy to fix. Widen the hole slightly with a knife so they rest on the wider tapered shaft instead of the narrow peg.
Or replace the fragile stand with a metal peg or shaft of equal height.

i know fritz gave a tutorial on using those magnetic toys to make good flying bases. I might do that this weekend.

As long as you make it the same height as one of the standard flying stands, you're good.
