So, everybody loves Dreadnoughts.
Or at least I do.
Luckily for all you dreadnought lovers, Blood Angels can get up to 11 of them. Yay.
But if you’re taking that many dreads, you really need to think about what the rest of your army is doing, so everything doesn’t fail.
So, a 1750pt dreadnought army.
Librarian, shield, fear of the darkness 100
Honor Guard, 2x meltagun, 4x flamer 155
Drop Pod 35
Furioso Dreadnought, blood talons, HF 135
Drop Pod 35
Furioso Dreadnought, blood talons, HF 135
Drop Pod 35
Furioso Dreadnought, blood talons, HF 135
Drop Pod 35
5 man assault squad, meltagun, infernus pistol, remove packs 125
Drop Pod 0
5 man assault squad, meltagun, infernus pistol, remove packs 125
Drop Pod 0
5 man assault squad, meltagun, infernus pistol, remove packs 125
Drop Pod 0
5 man assault squad, meltagun, infernus pistol, remove packs 125
Drop Pod 0
Dreadnought, MM, HF 115
Drop pod 35
Dreadnought, MM, HF 115
Drop pod 35
Dreadnought, MM, HF 115
Drop pod 35
= 1750
So, you have 11 pods, 6 of them with dreads inside, 5 with infantry, all of them with some form of melta, either single MM/meltagun, or doublemelta.
Weapons check:
5x doublemelta squads
3x single MM
3x single melta
6x HF
1x quadflamer squad
You have a couple of choices when playing this army. Against mech, you’re probably best off dropping down all of the infantry, and destroying 5 tanks. Horde, drop down the furiosos and the HG + an dread, and flame away.
Against CC armies, drop the 6 pods down in a line and try to funnel them into one spot. You can fill up a large amount of space with 11 pods.
Try and fear vulnerable units with the lib (don’t be afraid to detach him to fear a different unit to the one that the squad he was with in the pod is shooting, or to fear a unit that is further away) Good targets are devs or long fangs ( non fearless infantry fire support really), non fearless deathstars (if they fail that’s byebye to 400-800pts) or any other units that you would rather not waste your shooting on.
Anyways, that’s it really.
Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Well I personally love the dreadnought smash assault thing, but if this were cut down to have the max. amount of dreads and the min. amount of infantry, it would be less points, and more "WHY CAN'T I KILL THESE FOOOLS"
The idea of a Dreadnought army is that it can walk right through the toughest IG gunline and slap the main dude in the face.
Get at least one Libby Dread, and focus on CC, cos moost eill get there withought needing guns, but you should have a fair amount of range weapons (Multi-Meltas, Frag Cannons.)
Also, the Drop Pod approach is an excellent choice, apart from the face you have to deploy half of 'em on the first turn

Why not take Rifleman Dreads (without DPs) instead of the MM/HF Dreads?
I have to question putting the Assault Squads in pods as well. The main problem as I see it is that you don't have good mobility once you've landed, and you scatter 2d6 as normal. The only benefit I see as opposed to running them with Jump Packs is more control over what drops on Turn 1, and I'm not sure it's worth it.

Because they would have to walk?
The extra drop pods are needed to get all that Melta down on turn one.
Its not the best BA list, but it would be a fun one, and i think could work well. 6 Dreads won't be fun to play against, and if thats not enough for you, you then have 5 other squads capable of destroying a few tanks or MC.

I have ran almost exactly this list (except at 2500 pts, so just add more drop podding units), and had loads of fun. Destroyed a friends list as well since no one in our group ever ran something like this.
Sadly I had around 12 DP units, and only owned two drop pods, so soda cans were abound on the table

Why don't you take dreds with ACs, with DPs, but then not chose to have them in the DPs. that way you get the fire support, and also get the Dp so you can choose where that melta goes.
I would also take the assault marines and have them keep their packs so you can use their mobility, if anything you can always keep the Dps, and just have them empty while the jump pack marines either DoA, or hide in cover and come out to help the dreds.
