Moving to IG after playing Space Marines for the longest time and I've settled on Steel Legion. Infantry has been purchased and I wanted to run my list by everyone before purchasing all the armor. The main opponents in my gaming group are Orks (woops me all the time), Tau, and Nids. The special weapons loadouts is to keep the list best all around against armor and hordes. The Ork player usually runs mobs of boys with Kans as shields but is moving to using trukks and I think he has recently ordered a bunch of bikers. He is my target to defeat if you haven't noticed. What do y'all think?

Hey there.

Not a bad looking list to start, however there are a few critiques I have:

1) There really isn't much of a point to mix-and-match your special weapons in squads. Any squad you want to use for your tank hunters should have 3 meltas, while your others can have 3 flamers. Dedicating units like this will increase their performance.

2) I've never been a fan of putting sponsons on my LRBT. The tank is tough enough, with enough range to never really worry about losing it's Battle Cannon until it's too late, and for the point cost the sponsons aren't really worth it.

3) Fast attack tanks I find are best taken in pairs, but point constraints would come into effect here, and Hellhounds are decent as it is, so this should be fine.

Just my thought's on the list. Keep at it, Comrade, and may the Emperor protect.

HQ is fine, medic isn't optimal imo but whatever.

Vets loadout of 2 melta/1 flamer is interesting. I think your idea has merit, but every squad should have a hull mounted HF already, so I would pretty much go with 3 meltas as usual.

Lemans- well, have you considered switching them to eradicators? They will beat the LRBTs at horde killing through ignoring cover, the main thing you lose out on being AP3, which you'll rarely need against orks/tau/nids. This leaves two disadvantages: range and points. Cutting the HB sponsons will help (you'll be moving most of the time anyway) with the points, while a 36" range is often less of a problem than you might think.

Finally, you have the manticore and hellhound. One is going to have to go if you want your lemans unsquadroned, and I would cut the hellhound. Eradicators are basically the same thing except with greater range and durability but no automatic template hits.

I definitely was considering switching to each squad having a dedicated purpose of either Anti-Tank or Anti-Infantry. Probably gonna go with 4 squads of Meltas and 1 of Flamers.

Why would I have to get rid of either the Manticore or Hellhound if my LRBTs were unsquadroned? the Hellhound is Fast Attack so Force Org slots are still within regs.

Also, removing the sponson HBs on the LRBTs would free up 40 pts. What do you recommend instead?

Okay, after looking back at my points calculations I messed up and didn't include the CC Chimera so this is the new list with some changes.

This is true, you'll have to pardon my drunk post.

At this point we are just splitting the hairs of a perfectly fine list but you know, most people settle for the flamer power provided by their horde of chimera hulls. You have 6 heavy flamers on chimeras, but you still feel you need two dedicated flamer units AND two hellhounds?

Agree that the list is a bit heavy on the flamer templates ...
