A thought just occured to me earlier. Being that there are so many kinds of dreadnoughts out there these days, what if the likely hood of the next CSM book having a dread entry that allows you to take a marked dread meaning : Regular Dread = Undevided, Librarian/Sorceror Dread = Tzneetch, Fleeting Dread = Slannesh, Furious Charge Dread/Bonus attacks = Khorne, Higher Armour/ No shake/ No stun dread = Nurgle.

Good thinking there Chaeoneyes. With the prevelance of Dreadnoughts in their various designs for the Loyalist Marines, you would think that they could throw Chaos players a bone every now and again.
Unfortunately, as per the CSM codex, we only get the one variant in all of it's bat s**t crazy goodness.
I just wish they'd update joke of a metal chunk they sell to represent it. As it stands FW makes plenty, and the previously mentioned Loyalist variants give you options for including some of the bastards in your army.

I prefer the current Chaos Dread, but maybe return of the Mutated Hull upgrade. It has most of the loyalist upgrades (minus new ones like the new furioso weapons). A sorceror Dread doesn't seem to fit with the concept of a Chaos Dreadnought, as it's more of a punishment than augmentation. A sorceror Prince fills that niche out just fine.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I think you're best bet is to use the Ven. Dreadnought model as it has the "head" that is on the Chaos version and just add spikes to it.

Actually, I am painting one right now that I have converted from the Venerable Dreadnought. A little bit more required than spikes. If you want to check it out, click the link in my signature.
A plastic Chaos Dreadnought kit would nice for a starting point, with less conversion work needed. That's why I think it would be great if the updated the model in question.

Just Dave's DIY chaos codex had some cool ideas for marked Chaos Dreadnoughts and Defilers, I seem to recall. You should take a look at those in the Proposed Rules section:

they will probably just allow the Dreds to take marks that do useful things.
Khorne: Furious Charge, +1A
Slannesh: Fleet, +1I
Nurgle: a Chaos Equivilant to the Venerable special rule
Tzeench: Psychic Powers
all Dreds would also have access to mark specific wargear
Khorne: 2 DCCWs
Slannesh: swap DCCWs for LCs similer to BA Blood Talons
Nurgle: Pus cannons or something
Tzeench: DCCW also follows the rules for Force Weapons.

Correction: they should just make Chaos marks do meaningful things for everyone.
Chaos Glory should just be a army wide rule for every CSM.

Khorne - obvious choices (furious charge, +A, melee weapons, rage)
Slaanesh - sonic weaponry, - Ld aura or something (poor Slaanesh always gets the shaft)
Nurgle - defense, more defense. plague cloud if it gets any other wargear at all.
Tzeentch - coruscating flames, hellfire autocannons or something

For the people suggesting Furious Charge; I don't see the point of having it on a Dread when they're strength 10 (typically) anyways.

Well, for anyone interested my PDF is up (link in my sig) with rules for CSM dread's including marks and specific wargear... [/cheap plug].
When/if GW do re-do the CSM's I think they should - assuming it's not done to the scale of DE - release a Plastic Dreadnought, Havocs, Power-armour Lord/Sorcerer box sets (possibly Defiler and/or normal marines also) with Abaddon and Huron blisters. Then I think a wave of the god/cult units would be needed, as they're obviously out of date too, just slightly less so IMHO.

I have to agree with what you said here... and I think they need to give the undivided Legions some more love next time. Maybe some plastic ugrade kits like what the Space wolves and Black Templars have.
