Hey,

I am looking for another space marine army to slowly build up, using maybe the gray knights codex. I'm looking for an exotic or unusual chapter that has a enough fluff to get a general idea, but is still vague enough that I have a lot of room to play around with.

any ideas!

lol, GK definitely aren't going to be unusual at your local game, at least until the hype dies down.

- Death Wing and Green Wing
- Tacticals and Devastators
- Retired

You could look at the Storm Bears chapter. Stupid name granted, but the colour scheme is awesome!
There is a website that lists over a thousand SM chapters plus pics of colour schemes. I can't remember the exact name but if you google 1000 space marines or something like that then you would be able to find it I'm sure.

Good luck!

Rainbow Warriors?
If you grab the Chapter Name Generator on B&C then you can make your own ridiculous chapter though you would have to do the rest yourself.

Nearly went with Rainbow Warriors myself, I still might.

In the end I went for Legion of the Damned. As in the whole are as LOTD, not just the LOTD unit. I figure they're something a bit different than your regular Chapters.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

There aren't going to be many Space Marine chapters you can use the Grey Knights codex with as they are a pretty singular Chapter.

You could do a Thousand Sons one or possible the Blood Ravens, they are a fairly psychic chapter.

The Exorcists

They're possibly Grey Knight successors, at the very least they've got wierd daemon-possession/daemon-fighting/PE: Daemons background.

Forgeworld recently went down a somewhat more traditional route with them in IA10, but that doesn't mean you'll have to (and we all know FW isn't canon anyhow )

They are the spiritual successors rather than the actual successors...

Lost in Warp... again

There's always the Luna Wolves - make a pre-heresy army or perhaps the name was just re-used by the Administratum. Unlikely, I know, but sometimes chapters get lost in the Administratum Shuffle, and technically, Horus' heretical Legion was the Sons of Horus...

thanks for all the tips! I know it would be hard to use GK codex with any marine chapter, i may decide to use BA, or just generic SM instead.

The idea here is to take a chapter that has some fluff and expand on it, rather than make my own chapter which is what i always do, or take a chapter which is popular in fluff so has little room to expand on with my own ideas.

I'll be checking out all the links, thanks again!

I couldn't find Storm Bears on LEX.

Rainbow Warriors is something I may look into as well.

I've been through a 'what chapter' myself recently, even though I probably won't start it until 6th Ed

This may help:

A mixed bag, some great schemes, others just plain crazy, some backgrounds have been written that you can elaborate on or change etc...
