Devastating Dark Reaper

So i was reading Index Astartes earlier and I came across something strange
pg. 6, Index Astartes
Gene-seed is often rendered useless if a Marines is exposed to high radiation levels or other forms of genetic disturbance.

Like those on Nocturne?

Even if they have "radiation shields" or something, the salamanders are getting a high enough does of radiation to turn their skin black due to the melanchromatic, so why is their gene-seed still working and their chapter not died out?

edits for clarity and spelling

I'm at your window

Have you tried Lexicanum.

Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.
Garrus Vakarian: Uh, I was there when you two had your thing, remember? Just get a room and work it out.

The radiation on Nacturne aren't at high enough level to disrupt the gene-seed.
Considering that nomal people can survive then i would guess that the gene-seed can as well.

Since different chapters still have different gene seeds and some of them have some specialties then others the Salamander gene seed is perhaps more resistant then the others.
