Lately I have been contemplating buying certain units by the bits value rather then a whole box. I was scouring Ebay as usual for them and then I wondered.
Is it truly possible to save money buying bits by bits IE; Heads at one time, legs at another, torsos and arms in another go.
What are your thoughts Dakka?

I fought for the Glory of the Emperor, I saw my mates die on the line. Did he say anything, not a frakking thing. |

Rarely. I've tried a couple of times and typically there is one set of bits from each kit (usually legs or bodies) that is highly contested and consistently goes for so much that you might as well be buying the box.
I did once buy bits for 6 Raveners from Bitz Box for the cost of 3, but that was with using spare Warrior and 'Staler claws from my collection.

Usually not, generally the people selling bits that could form complete sets are doing it in a business setting, they wouldn't split the kits up if they couldn't make as much or more as selling it complete.
Having said that if you don't need the entire kit you can save some good cash sometimes.

Yeah, usually the legs are the hardest to come by as that's what limits the number of models in a box. Granted for vehicles you can sometimes get away with buying the parts separately. It's the turret/weapon mount that'll be the pain there.

Bits have consistently gone up in price and have (in my opinion) jumped the shark. If I need any significant number of bits, I just buy the kit.

No. Unless there are a very small number of parts you need from the box the bitz will always work out more expensive. If that wasn't the case then there would be no money to be made in selling bits.

It depends on what you want and what you have on hand.
If you have a ton of spare parts and want to create more marines but don't have certain parts then hell it beats buying other boxes.
Though it all depends on price as well.
