Hi all. After having read Dashofpeppers tactica articles and seeing that he uses Vassal, I thought I'd try it for myself.
Now I have only been fiddling with it for a few hours, but I seem to have got the basic gist of how it all works.
I just wondered if any of you who use it regularly find it the most effective way of testing new army builds for your current force, or even new army's completely.

I always used to proxy to test new lists, but I may become convinced by Vassal if I could hear some other people experiences with the system. I guess it's also a good way to play other games to see if you are interested in buying them.

Thanks Dakkites in advance!

Personally dont like it myself.
If you are proxying currently, I see no real reason to change.
All you are trying to do is a get a feel for a new army or try a wacky list right?
I cant see the advantge of vassal over a proxy in that case.

Good point there Ratius. I guess my biggest problem is not having the space to try out new or weird lists as and when I feel like it.

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

If you're stuck at home w/o a table and/or friends coming over to play....it's great.

Got a family, wife, kids? Work full time? If you can set aside 3 hours you can get a game in for sure instead of packing all your stuff up and heading to the FLGS to 'maybe' get a game in.

I use it all the time...and playtested my current Grey Knight army on it b4 purchase. A very fine tool.

It's not "true" 40k due to Line of sight issues and the fact that people play armies that will never be bought sometimes, but it's a decent way to playtest and stay frosty in your game if you cannot get out often or have a lack of players in your area.

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

DS has a good point too, didnt consider the time/space angle.

Yes to all the family questions, except the kids bit.... My biggest problem is that there is not any FLGS in Oxfordshire. So that just leaves my local GW..... Currently populated by annoying little twerps with their predilection to use the word 'gay' to describe everything!

Thanks for that advice thou deadshane 1, I'll bear it in mind and keep tinkering with it. See what I can do.
