My friend and I are considering purchasing a few of Tamiya's German bike kits for out guard rough riders,; I as a portion of my force is inspired by the Jin-Roh universe, and he as his tank company need some outriders. What I'm wondering is how do these models scale up against a 40k guard mini? Anyone used them? Are Tamiya kits particularry difficult to work with-as it looks like the bikes may need to be shortened a little? Two bikes for £7 seems rather reasonable, but youknow, I don't really want to spend money if it turns out that they won't work. =/

1:35 scale? They'll look too big for 40K (well, except for an Ogryn rider ). 1:48 scale would probably be fine, but I don't know if anyone does 1:48 scale motorbikes.

While a bit rare there are 1/48 scale BMW R75 kits out there. I think Bandai made one, but it has since gone out of production.

edit: eBay-fu has found another company called "Propaganda Kompany" also produced them in 1/48 scale; linkage

edit again: looks like Propaganda Kompany has a website and still makes 1/48 motorbikes. Resin and pricey, but existent.

Yeah, those are just way too pricey for a casual gamer like me. =/ ....My army will include some gas masked spec-ops Ogryns at some point, so yeah the bikes could work for them- though I guess they'd be hell to make rules for, least not convert (just use orks and greenstuff I suppose). Pity its so difficult to find some decent WWII style bikes that'll fit the scale here in Scotland. ¬¬

I agree 1/35 would be a little large for 40k, definetly go with 1/48 if you can.

As to Tamiya, they are know for making very good kits, though they do tend to be pricey. Personally, the only company better is Hasagawa, but they are even more expensive.
