... I feel smart asking this, but it just came up, and I am having a stupid moment... in Annihilation, when determining kill points, where do dedicated transports factor in? Would you need to kill the transport along with the squad, or just the units it was carrying to claim the point? Does the vehicle give its own point!? (Doubt that one, but while asking stupid questions, may as well throw that one out there)

Thanks, promise I'm not usually this much of a scrub muffin

Each Unit is counted as a Kill Point.

Dedicated transports are a unit so they equal 1 Kill Point.

The squad inside is another unit so they equal 1 Kill Point.

An Independent Character is yet another unit so it equals 1 Kill Point as well.

IIRC, dedicated transports are units, but they do not take a slot on the FOC. So yes, they would offer a kill point as well as the squad they are dedicated to.

Pages 4-5 tell you what units are.

Annihilation tells you every unit dead at the end of the game grants a kill point.

There is no exception for transports, dedicated otherwise. They're still units. This is part of the point of kill points- to balance how cheap (points-wise) and useful transports are.

Put it this way. If you kill a BT Emperors Chump, is he worth a Kill point? How about a squad of Eldar Warlocks? Space Marine Honour Guard? IG Techpriest? All of those are UNITS that do not take up a slot, just as a dedicated transport does not take up a slot. Yet for some reason no one says they don't grant a KP, it's always dedicated transports. Bottom line, every unit gives up a KP, unless it has a rule that says otherwise.

So retinues for HQ's do give up a kill point right?

Yes, but note that none of the units I mentioned above are retinues. Not a lot of true retinues left out there.
