I've known about warhammer for about 7 years, but i only really got into it a few months ago.

I currently have a dark eldar troupe, with a squad each of raiders, cabalites, and wytches.

I also converted a dreadknight to dark eldar. This was a process i very much enjoyed, and i want to do the same with a dreadnought. This poses a problem.

Do i buy assault on black reach?

I have around £300 to spare, and i am interestind in having a few orcs and space marines.. I definitely want to get a dreadnought regardless, but the space marines and orcs would see very little use.

Is it worth spending the extra money to get the full set, or should I just but the dreadnought? I haven't been playing fo long, and as i've seen, many people change armies early on in their 'career', so to speak, and i would almost undoubtably go to space marines.

So what should i do?

If you plan on playing/using the orks and marines from Aobr as they are, then it's a fantastic buy.

If you plan on doing heavy conversions to turn them or pieces of them (like the dreadnought) into something else, buy the pieces/models/squads individually.

The Aobr models are all solid plastic and 'snap-together' models, which precludes a good amount of converting. This makes sense though seeing as how it's aimed at being a beginner's set, and does not detract from the qualiy of the models provided at all (if used for what they are, and not what you can convert them into).

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

AOBR is really good value in terms of what you get. It never hurts to have a few bits and bobs from another army lying around, I say go for it. Incidentally, you say you converted a Dread Knight to Dark Eldar. How did you do that, out of interest?

I saw it as stolen tech, which seemed fitting of the race. I removed the head, Put a spare cabalite head i had lying around in it (i attempted to give the impression of refurbished power armor being used) and i Stuck a cabalite warrior on the top. I then removed one of the shin plates, as if it had been blown off in the fight to steal the tech. (This was actually mostly because a friend really wanted the shin plate with victor on for some reason, but it worked.) Finally, i gave it a black paint job, gave it a green highlight, as if it were battle torn by slightly dabbing with a single brush hair, and gave the plates a green rim. I also added a red and white dark eldar rune to the remaining shin plate.

I think it turned out pretty well. I can post a pic if you want, it's already on my PC.

Also, I'm currently leaning towards buying. If anyone had a bad experience/grudge/rape story from the set, speak now please!

Post the pictures if you've already got them. That sounds cool at best, interesting at worst.

AoBR is cool. The poses are limited, obviously, but it's a good set. I don't know what you'll do with all those minis, but it's a good buy.

Get the aobr and I will buy the space marines off you for £1 lol just joking!!!

I am looking for AOBR marines but its not a big deal for me since I am trying to finnish off my GK then Orks then maybe necron (waiting for codex). I bought the AOBR kit it is great. If you need a rulebook and the dreadnought. Then BUY IT.

if you only need the dreadnought maybe get it on ebay.

Or unless you want to start an ork or marine army maybe later on. Dark eldar will be fun to make and build and paint but when you get bored of it you can always have some other models to play with and mess around on.
