Is there any reason (assuming i pay the points and use the appropriate HS slot) that i can't field a squad of Khorne Berzerkers in a Land Raider? I understand it's not a DT, but if i paid for an empty LR, deployed the 'zerkers next to it; could they then jump in on Turn 1 and trundle off?

You can start the Berzerkers in the Land Raider if you wish, provided that it isn't a dedicated transport for Terminators.

OK. Thanks for that. I was thinking it could be a nice surprise for the doors to open, they expect 5 termies and instead 10 berzerkers come barrelling out.

As AlmightyWalrus pointed out, there is nothing preventing you from embarking the Berzerkers in the (non-dedicated) transport during deployment. This is backed up by the Rulebook FAQ. It's also worth pointing out that, as per the "Note on Secrecy" rule on p92, you should always make it clear to your opponent which squads are embarked upon which transport, unless you both agree to keep things like that secret.

We tend to do that in our gaming group to keep things interesting. It can lead to soem interesting tactics.
In the past i have lead an opponent on a wild goose chase because his unit chased an empty rhino wanting to kill what he thought was inside. Lol.

land raiders are a pretty good delivery vehicle for zerkers, 9+Kharn will give anyone a headache--but it's a damn expensive headache and takes up a slot that could be used for vindis or predators. not to mention the dilemma of giving it DP to increase it getting across the board unscathed and having a 225 pt paperweight, or keeping the BS 4 lc and risked getting stranded midfield by glances.
against certain lists when you have to cross the board to get the guy, like tau, i could see it being viable because those zerkers have a pretty good chance of wiping 700 points of tau in 2 turns.
but it seems like a hard sell in an all comers list when for those points, that LR could buy you another squad of zerkers in and put them in a rhino.

Oh definitly, i agree that it is expensive. I just wanted to know if it was legal because, as you said, soemtimes it coudl be worth whiel doing.
In a standard list i wouldn't do it unless i knew what i was up aganist. next time i play my friends IG i may use this to get close to his blobs and get through the artillary fire.

FWIW, I regularly run 8 Berzerkers (including a PF champion) and Kharn in a LR. They prove very effective in almost every game I play - the ability to charge after moving and disembarking is invaluable, IMHO.

I always take possession. It really frustrates the enemy when 1/3rd of their damage results are just cancelled. It is a bit expensive, but I don't think the BS hit is all that important: all the guns in the LR are twin-linked and we can't get the MM like loyalists can, so the shots that matter usually will hit.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.
In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos. |

I prefer zerkers. They have a higher number of attacks and I'm good (and lucky) in popping important transports tocharge what's inside. The LR is invaluable for that (enemy units kept moving away or hiding behind terrain when I set charges from my rhinos). However, I've been pondering some terminators; the zerkers are so killy that they tend to murder their target and become vulnerable to enemy fire until they can move back inside the Raider.
Maybe terminators can either stay locked in CC (and thus not get shot at) or weather the shooting better. But the chaos LR has a ridiculously small carrying capacity and 5 termis might not be as lethal. I just haven't been able to find lightning claws for a 5-man squad, though!

Yeah, the chaos termie kit doesn't come with any l.Claws. You're probably better off either buying sets of loyalist termies and adding skies etc, or trying to find sets of chaos termie lord claws on bitz sites.

You should't have any problem finding Terminator Lord bitz on Ebay, but you'll get more than just lightning claws.

True. If it were me i would buy a loyalist assault Termei pack and do a few head swaps (any chaos player is bound to have at least a few spare Chaos heads knocking around).

They should be easy to get just trading with loyalist players. The assault terminator box comes with both TH/SS & LC bits, and most players go TH/SS. So most SM players have leftover LCs. I went to trade for some with a gaming buddy last night and he just gave me the sprue, as he had no use for it.

easy to find just the lightning claws from an assault termie box on ebay. I did that for my black reach termies
and to the first topic, I sometimes do assault squads in my Blood Angel raiders. Yes the loyalists get better toys so I can pack a full squad plus chaplain and priest in there
