I've got a bunch of Grey Knights that I want to get based on their normal plastic bases temporarily while I get them painted, once done, they will be moved across to their resin scenic basis that I've picked up. What will be the best way of doing this? Plastic glue is definetly a no-no as it bonds the surfaces. The best I can come up with is a tiny amount of super glue and when it comes time to removing them, snapping the join and hope a leg doesn't give first.

Anyone done this before and can give me some tips?

If you plan to pin them to their bases, which I suggest, you could put the pin into the foot, leave it long outside, and insert into a cork. Instant temporary base.

That's a thought... How does it work with priming? I'll be needing to do 31 guys

For priming I use an old bulletin board, then transfer them to a cork for painting.

I've used just a tiny spot of superglue while spray priming, and it's worked well enough. I could just snap them off their bases and glue them onto the resin bases I had. I've also put them on with blu-tac and just pulled them off when done.

I use a just a little dab of PVA glue under each foot. It's enough to hold it in place until it's time to move , and when it's time for that it comes off pretty easy.

Little dab of superglue or white glue (PVA), as said. Snap off afterward. If it's not snapping off easily, work the blade of your x-acto knife into the join, and twist slightly. Should pop right off. If you glued it too much and that's not working well, stick it in the freezer for an hour and then try it. The cold will weaken the bond.
