Hey,

I have an awful lot of broken banner poles throughout my fantasy and 40k armies and I was wondering if the community had advice on fixing them.

The only thing that I've thought of is greenstuffing ribbons or cloth around the break to support and hide it. Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily look good on all banners.

Ideas welcome!

Where exactly are they broken? Would it be worth replacing the shafts? Say with pinning rods?

May be worth replacing the whole pole with a length of brass rod. It's very strong and dirt cheap at Hobby Lobby or a model train shop.

Depending on the pole's width, especially if it has texture or something modeled on which you want to keep, you could also drill all the way up the middle of the pole with a pin vise and put a pin up the middle. Again, a narrow gauge brass rod works very well.

Privateer Press sells nice little ~$5 kits with two narrow-guage drill bits for a pin vise (I broke my narrowest one, so bought this as a replacement) along with a few pieces of brass rod matching the thickness.

Brass rod.
That is all.

It's what I have replaced banners AND pikes (pikemen)/Halberd poles with before and it works well.

You can't break it off and it takes more force to bend it than plastic. 1mm rod is easy enough to source (and cut - pliers with a wire cutter can do it - that's most of them and a file can neaten up the cut ends.).

Cut off the bits (toppers, blades, etc) and drill out a hole to fit the rod. Cut rod to length. Drill holes through hands where necessary. Use superglue or epoxy (araldite) to attach.
