When I started orks (about 2 years ago) I looked at Codex and saw Flash Gitz. First I was like: ''Wow! They have good armour and big gunz'' Then I played few years with FGs and realised that they arent so good, so I changed my poor Gitz conversions to Nobz. Now, when years have gone by, I looked again and found few ideas how to play them.
So what is your toughts of Gitz? Why they suck and why no one, mean no one plays them.

1. They take precious heavy support slot, where Orks have so good choices that they are no-brainers over Flash Gitz.

2. They are essentially Nobz, but without some of the options which makes Nobz good. They can't take Klaws, for example.

Because they cost four times what a shoota boy does.

4 shoota boyz get more shots, more attacks, more wounds, than one flash git, and are a scoring unit to boot.

They're supposed to be the shooty version of Nobs. But all the nob benefits are CC oriented. So you're stuck with this kind of hybrid unit that has fairly good CC stats - but no option to take CC upgrades like a powerklaw. And they've got these fancy guns, with BS2, that you pay through the nose to put additional upgrades on.

And, even through all that, the best thing about their guns is their AP, and that's random and you don't get to pick the best target for what you roll. Plus, 5E has so much cover available that good AP frequently just reduces to an enemy using a cover save instead of a real save. Think of other units where they've got basic guns with good AP (stormtroopers, thousand sons) and you'll find units that few people use. Why? Because you're paying points for an advantage that is very easy for your opponent to negate.

If Flash Gitz got all the upgrades into the initial point cost (heck, maybe even at 30 points or so), and came with standard nob upgrades (maybe a shooty banner giving them BS skill 3 instead of the +1 WS one ) along with a Battlewagon ride, you could probably then and only then consider fielding Flash Gitz.

Because they are shooty orks. Lets look at other shooty ork units. Lootas work because of range, massive quantity of shots and being really cheap. That is basicly the opposite of flash gitz, who are short range, low amount of shots, and are expensive. And you can't count on the ap, or give different upgrades to gitz for allocation.

Because they take the same slot as a battlewagon. I know which one I'D rather have.

Because Lootas exist. For cheaper and more Dakka.

I think it has all been said. Use them if you're looking for fun in a friendly game, they may surprise you...but that's just it. They're either a pleasant surprise when you get that 1 roll on the AP or they're an absolute points sink that will never hope to make their points back.

Basically agree with all of the above. Essentially that are a points sink. Shame, great potential for some brilliantly funny P&M work with them.....*sigh*
