dread with psybolt.

assualt cannon S7 4shots-rending
twin linked auto cannon S8 2shots

The chance that of 4 shots hit is

14/3 = 2.66666 shots hit

the chance that it is a 6 is

4/9 = 0.4444 shots roll a six

The extra D3 from rending.

4/27 that is a glance

8/27 that it is a pen

This means that 4 in every 27 shots is a glance and 8 in ever 27 shots is a pen. 4 in every 9 shots does some damage.

NOW for the auto cannon.

taking into acount of the twin linked

16/9 = 1.77777 shots hit

8/27 = the chance you roll a six which is a pen.

now you compare, the chance of autocannon getting a glance is the same as the assualt cannon getting a pen.

4 in every 9 shots will do damage for assault cannon

8 in every 27 shots will do damage for auto cannon.

The chance of the assault cannon doing damage is 1.5 times higher.

AM I doing something wrong?

On moon miranda.

Nobody is going to argue that the Assault Cannon in almost any situation where it can engage an enemy target is going to on average put out more damage than an Autocannon.

However the kicker is that the Autocannon has twice the range and can threaten stuff from across the board and still is doing acceptable damage, while the Assault Cannon must be much closer to engage an enemy target.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Having half the range is a pretty big negative. Especially I'm the GK range.

Also iirc you can take only one assault cannon on the dread, while you can take two autocannons, which means you can fire the same number of shots, at an higher str and at double the range. Sure, you lose rending but the higher str and double range pretty much compensate for that.

Yep, you can only have one assault cannon, and a noted assault cannons are too short range on the walker compared to the autocannon.

The difference is the range.

At 48" to 24" the psyrifle dread dominates, with the pysasscan blasting ahead at 24". Psycannons do the same versus the psyrifle dreads at 24".

I have a theory list that has my psyrifle dreads opening up all the transport stuff from 48", until my psyasscan razorbacks get into range and are able to their firepower into the 24" killzone.
