I played the other night and when my Space Wolves were assualted I counter attacked. The guy I was playing said I have to make the leadership to counter attack period. But the way I've played before was that the automatcially counter but if the make a leadership test they get an extra attack. I think im right but im fairly new to the game. Let me know if im wrong please.

Counter-Attack is spelled out on Page 74 of the main rulebook.

essentially your opponent was correct.

But it just says they get a bonus to their attacks. So wouldn't that mean they are already counter attacking with the normal amount of attacks?

The extra attack is the only benefit of Counter Attack. It sounds like your opponent was getting it mixed up with a "Defenders React" move.

If you fail your Ld test you still move in using "Defenders React" (just like everyone else does) but you just get no bonus attacks.

WHen you are assaulted you Defender React!, moving your unit up to 6" to get as many models fighting as possible

the USR "Counter Attack" states that, if you passa a ld check when assaulted, you gain the bonus attack as if YOU had assaulted. If you fail the ld check you just attack with your normal number of attacks.

OK. Thank you nosferatue1001. And Thank you to everyone else. I wanted to make sure i was doing it right. Like I said, Im fairly new so sometimes playing with other players that bend the rules to benefit them is confusing.
