Well, as the title says, this is my plan. Im getting a bunch more Necrons, and so wanted to test them out against my brothers SM, and decided that a cool story driven campaign would be the best way to go at it. So Im wanting to draw up a map of what will be an Imperial city in the middle(or the back of the map, not really sure yet) and have sections be played out as the actual battles. Examples would be, Im wanting to have a big main bridge going into the city, and so that section on the map will be one battle, and it have a big ol bridge made up in the center of my table and so on.

So Im thinking of having the campaign start out in the wastes/outskirts of the city and go from there. Problem is, Ive really no clue how to go about it after that. Should we make a new build for every section? Im thinking of making an assault list, and a defenders list, for each army, and for the points ranging from say 1k upto something over 2k (havnt decided how high to go really) how would that work? I know we will also make a few killteam missions (modified a bit so that it works better then how it is in the battles book) Not only that, but does the winner get something in return other then, I own this now. Even if its THATS simple, how do I go about the defenders actions? Should we go in turns as far as, Necrons got highest roll at the start, so my turn I choose assault this section, then its his turn. His turn he decides to hold off and fortify this section. My turn I assault that section? Again, if we DO hold back for better defense, how the hell does that work?

Im asking DAKKA, because he comes up with good ideas, but most the time his ideas end up in his benefit, more then balance. Granted I know that if an attacker kicks the defenders ass real bad, you come to a point where the defenders are basically push overs, but that makes for some really boring games (reminds me of necromunda a bit, Oh your group has done AWESOME lately, so anything I make will get head stomped)

Help me DAKKA!!!!!!!!

My friend has this thing he bought called Planetary Empires. It is from GW and you can create a "map" of interconnected peices decorated with fluff like cities or what ever. I would lay that out on a table and show it to your opponent and then both of you place a little object on it to represent your armies and battles. Then just write up some fluff as you fight and conquer the map in different ways. It might be a fun way to run a campaign. We haven't done that together yet but it sounds like a good way to run a story. Maybe even have rewards for capturing certain areas of the map? Like if you capture a weapons facility then your warboss gets an extra attack of your choice or all your infantry increases their armor by 1 or something. Just an idea.

My friends and i are doing an interplanetary campaign, we don't have the empires set, but, were doing 5 missions, 3 way battles.

Starting with Planet Fall Mission, then several from the battle missions book, and then, if we can scrap up the points, apoc.

If i were you, i would use your armies own back round world, or the other persons. For our campaign, my regiments homeworld is under attack from a chaos fleet that has begun infighting and separated into factions, and several tau Cadres looking to conquer and colonize the system.

Don't forget to include some Cities of Death/Cityfight areas as well, they make a nice change of pace.

Here is an idea, maybe you start with the first mission being a combo kill team and ambush. The SM player is investigating some strange ruins and then the necrons start waking up. The SM player can deploy about 5 guys and necron can deploy about twice as many in ambush. The SM start at the center of the table and win by leaving off any side (Then they get back to warn the city.). The necron player wins by killing all the SM. Who ever wins gets to pick who goes first in the next battle.

Chowder - Seriously man, your avatar changes more then my socks. You were JUST some dude with a bullet going through his head

Im liking the idea of the ambush type thing. It instantly gave me some fluff/story to go from. We might have to actually discuss after each battle what to do next, simply because the outcome would be different. If I win, we go this route, and if he wins we go that route kindda thing. Yea We've got the battles book already, and I THINK he has the planetstrike book

Gathering the Informations.

What I do for story/map campaigns is print out a generic satellite grid picture of an area.

Two pictures, finesse it a bit more and voila. You've got a map...

Get some satellite pictures of a few cities, and go nuts.

For the campaign itself?

Best option is to start out doing a few 'Scouty' units encountering each other on the outskirts. Move in more and more on the map, with forces becoming heavier as the conflict escalates.

You want us to put in story content to your Necron SM campaign? So you can have fun with your brother?

Man, I remember when my sibilings and I would play, we made stories from the whole cloth of our imaginations.

That might work for you.

Oh doomthumbs, your a hoot

No Im not asking DAKKA to make up a story and campaign for me to play. Ive pretty much got the story done up, mainly Im looking for tips/ideas on how to, gamewise, pull it off. When one of us wins, how does that actually affect the game for the next battle. Now since Ive given you your monthly acknowledgement................

So if Player A wins game 1 you then go to game 3 but if Player B wins game 1 you go to game 2 instead. And, then carry that on as you go...

What you're asking is detailed in your rulebook.
The above statement is true, and also contains the correct versions of your and you're.
Just saying writing doesnt really look like your thing.

Now I know Ive beaten your annoying trolling ways. Youve ran out of argument and so went strait for the misspellings. BIG ASS to you bud. Hell you can have 2

I only own the small rule book, and so the large may have a template for making up campaigns. That I dunno, because my books, just have your typical 3 missions and 3 setups.
