When I started playing an Imperial Guard army, a friend of mine had a joke: paint all your penal legionaires in orange, then make them black guys.

I took this a step further, and made everyone in my army dark-skinned. Which sets them apart, considering how white-washed most of the 40k universe is.

In the spirit of this joke/theme, I want my tanks and sentinels all in gold. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble painting my pimped-out tanks. Can someone provide advice on this?

Hope you have some asbestos undies for the potential flamewar but anyway, I have used a Mythril silver base coat then thin layers shinning gold.

First of all, thank you for the advice. I'll try that on Russ #2.

Second, flames keep you warm at night, and argument is the mother of epiphany. If they have a problem with my black guardsmen and love of gold, bring it on.

Third, wouldn't asbestos underwear be highly dangerous and cause significant birth defects, not to mention itchy as hell?

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

It's the Imperial Guard, isn't joining its ranks a cause of significant birth defects? Like not having children at all?

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

Death is not a defect, nor is nonexistence. So long as you spawn no mutant, and raise no heretic, you have done no harm.

Besides, if you get past conscription, you are issued a regulation wife/husband of your choice for regulation shore leave. If you die, the next guy takes over. This is truly a glorious Imperium!

At first I was like, oh cool, an all-black 40k army. That is pretty under-represented in 40k.

Then I read your last line and realized that you're just a racist.

My personal favorite way to paint gold is to paint a coat of mithril silver and then use the Sephia wash until I get the color I want. It's usually 2 coats, sometimes 3. I've use this method on a couple Necrons to test a paint scheme. Didn't like the scheme and stripped them but it worked out pretty well. Might be ok for sentinels but would be a little hard to get a nice clean coat on whole Russ'.

So, I'm a racist because I think gold is cool... and I paint my tanks gold. Thank you for your window of insight into my soul, you self-righteous ass. Would you also like to tell me what color my skin is based on my post?

And according to your logic, I should do what? Make my army white guys if I want gold tanks? Maybe a bunch of strapping norsemen? That's the problem. I've wanted gold tanks since before deciding that I wanted the army black. They were independent decisions that are only loosely tied together, and you are assuming the worst.

There is a post directly above yours where I explain that these were separate decisions. The line about it being a theme was a joke.

it was a joke in poor taste, and it could be conceived by some, probably many, to be quite offensive.

You're not racist for wanting to have blingin' tanks... Someone will start calling you a racist because you're stereotyping... Which in itself some people will regard as racist.

Have a mixed bag! Asians, black dudes, white guys... Remember bro, you have to keep everything PC especially on the internet, and warhammer 40k. There's never a time when people will hop up on a high horse to feed you anti racist semantics.

And besides, when the 40th millenia does roll around, everyone will probably be a very nice shade of brown anyhow.

Do what you want man, haters gonna hate. Just don't be surprised if some people get really offended.

I think it's a hilarious idea. It isn't racist at all, if you're going to call him racist, why not call someone using ogryns racist for making fun of hillbillies or rednecks. So the point is lost of being racist in my book. Also the little flag next to his name pretty much says he can paint his stuff how he wants and there is nothing you can do about. Dumb people on the internet get dumber cause of the internet. Trolls ftw. It would be more funny if you made the conscripts female prostitues, and made the commisars their pimps lol. Paint up the tanks to have purple and gold and fur, haha that would be hilarious. On a side note, there isn't racism anymore everyone hates each other equally now.

Oh I totally lost the topic, sorry. I use tin bitz, then dwarf bronze with a devlan wash, then highlight with burnished gold. It works really good.

Painting salamanders the original colours makes you racist too, since now they aren't just afro americans, they are JET BLACK with RED EYES.

In any case, do a 50/50 scorched brown and burnished gold for basecoat, then drybrush shining gold and/or tin bitz.

Will come out really nice, and not a cheezy all shining gold kiddy looking tank.

Ive always done bronze and then gold drybrushed overtop, gives the gold a bit of depths and looks expecially good after blackwash

make sure you ham it up, I want to see some bedazzle rhinestones on your chimera's , under effects, the works.

Hey guys I have this hilarious idea for an army, first I'll green stuff white hoods on all my guys then make all their banners burning crosses, it'll be awesome!

Not racist at all really. Stereotypical perhaps but i think anyone with half a brain knows not all black people wear "pimped" bling, but it is a typical look in many communities.

Whenever somebody says "I'll make all my penal legion black LOL" that's usually a pretty good sign of them being a racist. Maybe not a lynch mob type of racist, but still a racist of some kind.

You could do all that but you'd have to paint them all white. I have an ork army with backwards swastikas on them. Do i like nazi's? No. Orks are stupid creatures and wouldn't know which way a swastika turns and in the 40k universe they're considered the bad guys. Doesn't mean i goosestep everywhere.

The only way this army would start getting racist was if the troopers had buckets of fried chicken and watermelons and whatnot.
But anyway, the colonel/general/whatev's has gotta have a purple chimera.
