I think everyone has had played a game where one of their units, or dice, or a combo of the two, fail so hard that it's actually pretty awesome. I ran into this 2 days ago when I fielded Old Zogwort, the game for him went a little like this:

Turn 1: He did nothing

Turn 2: He squiffied my opponent's Daemon Prince (this is all he does, which is still a lot, I know)

Turn 3: He rolls double 1's on his psychic test and perils of the warp. 2 wounds left.

Turn 4: Does nothing again.

Turn 5: He passes his test but rolls a 1 for his psychic power, I reroll because of his warphead, roll 1 again. Kills two boys next to him and wounds himself again. 1 wound left.

Turn 6: Rolls double 1's again and finishes himself off.

The game was killpoints and the end score was 6-6! Old Zogwort killed himself and made me draw. Honestly I wasn't even mad, well maybe a little.

So does anyone have any funny bad luck stories to share? Post them if you got 'em.

I don't have any epic ones personally, but I recall reading a BR where a unit of Gretchin won combat against a Soulgrinder or some such. That must have been a headdesk moment for the daemon player =P

On the subject of Ork weirdboyz....

Small game against my Daemons, my pals weirdboy must have decided that "that teleporta thing looks fun!". He rolled the teleport psychic power 3 turns on the trot, meant that his big unit of slugga boys spend half the game bouncing round the table. They then landed beside my flamers and that was the end of that.

We agreed it was pretty funny though.

I don't have bad dice just bad luck (with land raiders specifically)

Game 1
Playing against my brother. I am vanilla marines and he is playing IG. I win the roll off and set up. I place my Land raider in the open (For some reason his only AT was one heavy weapons team with one las cannon) He sets up his las cannon opposite my land raider. Then he steals initiative. First shot is with the las cannon against my LR, it hits, penetrates, rolls a 6 blows up and kills a few guys inside .

Game 2
I get first turn and charge the land raider up the field and pop smoke. He fires 3 las cannons against the LR, all hits (the smoke, it does nothing ), all penetrate/glance, end up with 3 weapon destroyed results...

Game 3
Against my wifes ork truck list. Long story short, my LR failed to destroy a single truck after firing everything it had. It then got opened up by many power claws. One of my drop pods got more kills than my land raider.

Waaaaay back in 2nd, I was playing an allied Eldar and Smurfs force against my mates Orks. 3000pts IIRC..... Anyways, the battle was going well for me, I had popped all my mates vehicles and was chomping throu a large (20) unit of Goff Boyz with my Avatar.

Suddenly my mate reveals a tactics card (were they called that? I don't remember TBH!) which had kept his unit of 60 Grots hidden. Until the moment he chose to reveal them, right next to my Avatar...... The look on my face was a picture I assure you. In 2nd Ed, this was bad indeed. His Grots attacks went up and up, as did his chances to wound.... By the time the first round had gone, his last Grots were hitting on 2's!!!
They wounded the Avatar, I think 3 times, which left him on one wound. Which the Goff Boyz he was scrapping with to start with finished him off.

Death by Gretchin.

In 2nd Ed that was an embarrassment!

Playing a 500 point doubles game with my dark eldar and a space marine player teamed up against tyranids and necrons. I had 2 units of wyches in raiders and a heamon in my list. First turn 1 unit of wyches attacks a group of necron warriors. Kill 1 lose 3 breaks from combat and are run down by the necrons. Then the one necron they killed gets back up again.

Second turn I assault them again with the other unit of wyches. Kill 2, lose 4, break, run down, all casualties restored. was funny as all get out but a bit annoying being removed from the game that easily

I was playing a game with my IG, used Bring it Down! on an Avatar with plasmagun veterans, I rolled all . So I say, it's ok, they're twinlinked! You guessed it, another round of .
Needless to say, they all got toasted by their own guns.

bout a month back i fielded 2 big meks with SAG as thier weapons. first SAG gun (first tiem ever using a SAG too mind you) double ones, took out some gretchin caused a group of lootas to run off the tale and damaged a kannon

second SAG rolled double ones on the 2nd turn.. similar results minus the lootas actually passing leadership so there were 2 left as 3 had died... and this time i lost a zzap gun instead of a kannon.

as for warpheads/zogwart I have had zogwart in ghaz close though leading seperate squads both had one wound left eadbanger twice killed zog and ghaz (still won the game i was mopping up at that point and they took the last remainging opponent forces with them but still sad way to end it both my hq dying to my own hq

I field SAG Big Meks all the time and luckly I have yet to roll a double 1. However, I do seem to roll double 5's all the time, this is Zoink, where he shoots himself at the opponents. He's only survived the charge once.

Mine would have to be 4 full rounds of combat between my BT dreadnought (w/ PF) against a squad of GK terminators with Halberds... Neither of us could do anything. He couldn't get his grenades, and the only time I actually managed to hit and wound things, he'd get his 5+ invulns. It was ludicrous!

The last tournament I was at, the ork player I played against was doing battlewagon spam.

So I block him with about 3 rhinos and unleash meltas into the sides and fronts of one BW and don't kill it until the 3rd turn, and even then, there were two to deal with.

Tzeench was out to get me that game, only 2 of my land speeders came in up to turn four, 1 stayed out the entire game from bad reserve rolls. I charged snikrot w/ 14ish orc friends with around 12 marines, and couldn't beat him in combat (I killed like 2 orks) so I had to send bjorn in to kill him.

Another thing I remember is how in turn one, he killed a razorback with a single rocket off one of his battle wagons.

The 2nd game in that tournament was on a stupidly bad table for mech (Look at my gallery for reference, only two pics in my gallery). So I basically lost that game because my list couldn't get where it needed to since it was a DoW scenario.

3rd game, I killed all of the weapons on a predator and godhammer pattern land raider, both of which had an extra stormbolter, before I killed both.

1st game came down to the dice, the strategy was done without error, the 2nd game was just bleh, the 3rd game was just beating a newbie.

That's because when it's Orky bad luck it's funny and yet terrible

Mine would have to be a brief 1500pt battle against my brother. Trukks race ahead, do their thing. Bikers race ahead, do their thing. Battlewagon with deff rolla and KFF Big Mek rumbles on ahead... and encounters a wild small rock. Roll for Dangerous Terrain... I get a 1. Hmmm okay time for the reroll...1. Great. Next turn in shooting I roll for repairs on the Battlewagon with the Big Mek... a 2 Then I remember I had Grot Riggers and roll for them. I get a 4

In short the Big Mek sucks at building robust vehicles and repairs, yet the Grots can do it easy peasy

I was playing a kill team mission and had made most of my armor saves, then I decided to allocate a wound to my paladin. 2+ armor save right? Promptly rolled a 1. The only armor save he was called to make that game. Ah well, least he had two wounds.

How is that even possible? Gretchin have S2, they can't even come close to do anything against it. Right?

In one of my games on friday night - I didn't kill a single enemy model in 5 turns my dice were that bad. :(

At the same time I was almost table because I couldn't make my saves either - note to self throw away the black dice.

You'll be pleased to know he's failing even harder. Daemon Princes aren't Independent Characters, so Zogwort can't squig them.

+1 to this, always Shootaz.

Lots of Lascannon on the feild so I decide to Deep Strike my DreadKnight, turn 3 1 Lascannon still on the feild. DK Deep Strike wipes a unit. Guy shoots his last Lascannon at the DK and missed, 2 more units open up on the DK 5 wounds all 2+ saves. I roll 4 1s, dead in less them a turn.

Totally my opponents fault. I even asked him, is the Daemon Prince an IC, and he said, "Yeah, I think so." Good to know for future references though.

I thought my game last wekend deserved a post here. wasnt me rolling bad but my opponent.

salamander space marines vs orks

6 space marines practically destory all my grechin on an objective. flames and shots. 25 grechin wiped down to 7 grechin and 2 ruth. they roll double ones so they miraculusly don't run away. he assaults and my little remnants of grechin manage mostly thanks to bad rolling on his behalf not only lose only 1 grechen but kill 3 spae marines AND catch them when they fail leadership and try to run wiping them out.

I'm thinking of commemorating the grots actually getting this kill by putting a space marines head on a grot body to show the trophies they took from the combat

You can't sweeping advance Space Marines... still the 3 kills was a good one.
I played a 2v2 and my ally managed to take all the casualties whilst i only lost a scout squad.
