What does every one think about shooting template weapons into close combat? Flamers whilst in close combat?

While I think it might be fun, the rules for template weapons on page 29 strictly forbid doing it voluntarily.

Are you asking whether it is legal to shoot into an engaged unit with a tempate weapon? The situation most often being a CC next to an unengaged unit, and you shoot a template weapon at the unengaged unit but in doing so hit some members of the CC. This is legal so long as a few rules are bent a tad. bent but not broken...

Deuce - no, it is illegal with absolutely NO room for "bending" the rules.

It states you cannot place the template so it covers models in combat. Ever

Really? I read a tactics article elsewhere that says otherwise. If I can locate it I will post a link.

Blast weapons that scatter can end up in combat because you have no control over that.

but you can't deliberatly place or fire any weapons into a CC.

you could target something close to a combat and hope it scatters onto it, but aside from that you can't place templates, blasts, or fire any other ranged weapon into CC.

As nosferatu says.

Plus, one of the reasons to get into combat is to avoid being shot at!

I will admit that I have thought it might be handy that when one of my Dreads gets locked in c/c, my Burnas would be able to flame the unit that is fighting it, seeing as a Burna has no hope of even glancing a Dread.

But, then that opens a whole can of Shooting into close combat worms and the associated massive internet arguments. Of which I'll have no truck with.

Are you kidding? I'd love to shoot battle cannon shots into my engaged guard units! They are dead anyway lol! But no it would be game breaking I think... I'd win all the time, but game breaking.

In 5th edition Warhammer fantasy you could shoot into combat. The hits would be evenly distributed between both sides. I had a Wood Elf army, with S3 longbows, and T7 Treemen. Which meant once my Treeman got stuck into your block, I could shoot into that melee with impunity, as the half which hit the Treeman would just bounce off. It was broken as hell.

Skaven can still do it with Slaves.

they don't even have the drawback of killing their slaves anymore.

Yeah, but the Slaves can die whereas the Treants just block the arrows. Plus, Slaves are like half a point a piece or some nonesense.

normally it would be illegal but on time some guy really wanted to shoot his flamer in cc so we said ok you may, BUT you have to roll a d6 for every model in cc (including your own). every 4+ means the opponent gets hit and below that result your own gets hit(since cc is chaotic and flames just spreads everywhere)

By the way he only hit his own models so I wouldnt advise it..

Since the rulebook explicitly forbids it. No offense; just trying to keep the thread clear.
