So, I was just rereading the rules in the Ork Codex about the Waaagh!! and noticed something interesting. The Waaagh! rule says that "the ork player can, once a game, call upon the Waaagh!" or something to that extent. It then goes on to describe the effects of the Waaagh!, saying "All friendly Ork units gain the Fleet of Foot USR for that turn"
My question here is this: In a doubles game, with two Orkish players on the same side, does a single Waaagh! affect all the orks of both armies?
Also, because it says "Ork player" (emphasis mine), that is, single Ork player, does that mean that in a Doubles game with Two Ork Players, each player can call a Waaagh! separately?

They would have rules for the doubles tourny, something like unless it affects friend and foe alike, it wouldnt affect your parnter.

Doubles tourney rules? Is that BRB stuff? Official FAQ? (not being 'smart', honestly curious)
'cause I mean, "friendly Orks" (what is says specifically in the Codex) could either mean "just Orks in the Waaagh!! caller's warband" or "Any Orks that aren't actively trying to kill each other right now".
And are there actually rules that affects friend and foe?

I'd say it's army specific (i think there was an faq on this and the res orb, synapse etc) but the TO could always houserule differently.
If your ally wanted to waagh at the same time he'd use his waagh as well. Otherwise you'd have two seperate waaghs for the allied force that affected both, which would be a tad beardy.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

The only rules that exist for team games (outside of any tournie specific rules that might be out there) are in the Apocalypse rulebook. And they specify that the special rules for your army only affect your army, not your team mates'.

There are no official GW rules for doubles games. You have to come to an agreement.
I've seen differing levels of rules-sharing among allied armies at different doubles tournaments. For any formal event, this kind of stuff really needs to be spelled out.
Here's a good example:
(well, it's a bit more complicated as it's for four man teams, but they still cover the same questions you need to for doubles as well)

When you enter a tournament, sometimes they have their own set of rules pertaining to the tournament. Oftentimes you need to speak with the TO to find out what exactly can and cannot be done.

Depends on the TO. We recently had one where both armies were treated as one if they came from the same DEX. My KFF granted cover to my partner's Orks as did his BMs KFF cover mine. However since we had a single DEX army we only got one WAAAGH! per game. Seemed like a fair tradeoff to us.
There was another Ork player there who brought a Chaos partner. His partner did not recieve KFF saves nor did his partner get to use the WAAAGH!

See, that seems a bit odd, with the Chaos thing. Of course Chaos can't Waaagh!!, they can't yell properly with those helmets on and such weedy frames. But oughtn't the KFF affect all allied units in range? Or even all units in range, period? (That'd be an interesting thing for a Kan wall, if the enemy started getting cover saves if they were close enough to you...)
I can see fluff reasons for having multiple Waaagh!!s with multiple 'bosses', but I suppose it'd make the most sense that each would only work on that 'Boss's troops.

The thing is, the codexes aren't designed with team games in mind, so allowing allies to benefit from special rules for other armies leads to potential screwiness.
Ruling that each team-members army can only make use of their own special rules, as Apocalypse does, keeps things simple.

Special rules never affect the opponent unless the specifically tell you so.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |
