I haven't seen people make fun of them, aside from the occasional reference to them as Space Pups. But hey Ultrasmurfs have that too. It's mainly because it is believed to be an over powered codex.

Some people claim the current fluff is stupid and ridiculous whilst other claim that everything is wolfy mcwolferson.
I disagree with these reasons...

Other than calling them Space Puppies (as stated above), I haven't seen/heard them getting any more attention than any other SM Chapter. Heck, most people I know love them

I know a lot of people also prefer their Pre-Heresy fluff as opposed to their current fluff, but they seem liked by most people

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

Everything is wolfymcwolfson.
Nearly.

It was better when they were vikings rather than werewolves with norse influences.

I mean having Ulfwereners is acceptable but having them so common that they are in every squad? No. Less wolf more viking please.

I like them.

My usual opponent plays them most games.

(he's experimenting with norse-look orks too (waagh Fenris FTW )

Smacktalking them is fun though. as he comes up with appropriate nicknames for my units to match (like calling my Tomb Spyders Waring blenders) ..

Most of the time it is all in good fun.

When I actually see someone complaining about them, more times then not it os because they couldn't beat them. Not because they are OP, but because they themselves suck.

Space Furries

They get hate because they're the top codex atm (with the possible exception of guard), and because their new dex has a lot of silly naming schemes (Canis Wolfborn?). Also, they ride giant wolves... how can you not make fun of that!? >.>

Here's the problem - you start off asking why everyone makes fun of the space wolves, and then immediately turn around and do the whole 'lol, ultrasmurfs' routine.

If anything, the Ultramarines should get less hate - they don't have their individual codex, they don't have overpowered units, and they actually make sense as a fighting force.

The names thing is a stupid reason...
If you compare them to the previous codex you can tell that the only thing new with wollf in it is:
Wolf Claws
Canis Wolfborn
Thunderwolf Cavalry
And honestly unless they were going to cut those entirely what were they going to call them.
And DW naming schemes have never been up to much... Corax for example...

*Really* bad fluff, stupid naming, lots of very undercosted costed units, flavor of the month feel, etc. It's not all restricted to SW's, but SW's make it really easy. BA's, UM's and GK's get it pretty bad too however (and deservedly so).

At Adepticon, the most numerous army in attendance was Space Wolves, 38 of 43 of them however were "counts-as" Space Wolves (i.e. only 5 were actual Space Wolves armies). Because the book is so powerful, and people do things like that, it gets a bad reputation, and people pick on it.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I think they're great, Space Vikings FTW. But at my FLGS, they say they're awseome up to the point where they become furies, which i don't really understand how they are.

Agreed, in the previous codex it was not any better on the naming scheme.

The problem is they take everything to the point of parody. Stupid crap like firing artillery by smell and "Canis (read: wolf) Wolfborne of the Wolf Guard of the Space Wolves, Lord of the Wolfkin, wielding Wolfclaws, wearing his Wolftooth Necklace and Wolf tail talisman, bearing the saga of the Wolfkin, while riding his Wolf accompanied by Fenrisian Wolves... " (all of the stuff is either in his profile or unit description...)

WHFB Warriors of Chaos does the whole "Viking" thing way better.

fox-light713 wrote:

As above, firing artillery by smell than rushing forward to watch the results (thus exposing a valuable artillery platform whose point is to fire out of the enemies line of sight...and bringing it into line of sight), allowing a soldier to repeatedly do stupid stuff like crashing a superheavy orbital assault craft for kicks and then just send him on his merry way, etc. Additionally, for a force that, at least in the fluff, despises psykers, they not only have some of the best psykers and psychic powers in the game but can also field more than many other armies more reknowned for their psykers.
