A friend and I got together to play a casual game of 40k.

My list: Blood angels
1 Dante
1 Chaplain
1 Sanguinary priest, jump pack, lightning claw
1 Furioso dreadnought, heavy flamer
5 Sanguinary guard, chapter banner, 3 infernus pistols
8 Death company, 4 power weapons
5 Assault squad, meltagun, razorback, tl lc and pg
5 Assault squad, meltagun, razorback, tl lc and pg
Baal predator, sponson heavy bolters
Baal predator, sponson heavy bolters
Stormraven

Friend's list: Traitor guard (as well as I can recall)
Company command squad
Marbo
Psycher squad
Junior command squad, plasma guns, chimera
Infantry platoon, las cannons, power weapons, sniper rifles
Veterans, meltaguns, chimera
Veterans, meltaguns, chimera
Hellhound
Vendetta
LR Battletank
LR Demolisher
Basilisk

Mission:
Adepticon primer mission 3, Of Iron and Blood. Primary - kill points, secondary - objectives, and tertiary - unit assassination. My friend won the roll to place the first objective and I won the roll to go first.

Pregame:
It has been a while since I last fielded death company and I also wanted to try the sanguinary guard. My plan was to deep strike Dante and the guard in his backfield to take out armor and multi assault open chimeras with death company. I nominate his hellhound as my assassination target. He nominates my furioso dreadnought as his assassination target.

Deployment:
I deploy first. I deploy centrally in an effort to reduce the distance my stormraven will have to travel to get death company in striking distance. My friend counters with a central infantry blob, flanked by heavy tanks on my left and transports on my right.

Scout moves:
I rush the baal predators forward to face his infantry blob. He tried to steal the initiative and failed.

BAT1
My plan is to move my stormraven forward, and take shots at his light armor and infantry in an effort to reduce return fire. I have no shots at his heavy armor, so I'll just have to deal with that when the time comes. I stun his junior command squad chimera, I stun a melta vet chimera, and I kill 10 guardsmen from the blob (1 short of a leadership test).
Kill point count: BA0 - IG0

IGT1
My friend moved his hellhound forward along my right flank in an effort to draw fire away from his main force. The battle tank and a melta vet chimera maneuvered for shots. His fire saw my stormraven stunned and relieved of its tl multimelta. He also stunned one of my baal predators. He was looking to do substantially more damage, and averages say he should have, but armor holding up was a theme of the game.
Kill point count: BA0 - IG0

BAT2
I make my one reserve roll and plan where to place Dante, the sanguinary guard, and a sanguinary priest. My plan was to drop them in behind his heavy armor and away from his melta vets. Unfortunately, I could not get a good shot on his demolisher, so I settled for the battle tank. This would prove to be a huge mistake. I wanted to continue to reduce the infantry platoon and force a leadership check if possible. Finally, my razorbacks had no good shots on anything except his hellhound and I wanted the tertiary goal, so I figured why not... I immobilize his junior command squad chimera, stun the hellhound, and explode his battle tank. I also reduce the infantry platoon by 8 more guardsmen. I'm starting to get a little concerned. I haven't really touched any of his effectiveness yet...
Kill point count: BA1 - IG0 - Battle tank

IGT2
Turn two would see him break my army's effectiveness. He was able to get his vendetta in from reserves, but marbo was smoking a butt. The demolisher I wanted to destroy at the top of the turn pivoted towards Dante, the sang guard, and the priest and killed them all, except Dante. The infantry platoon caused the stormraven to explode. Further shots eliminated 4 death company marines. The psychers reduced Dante's leadership and he ran.
Kill point count: BA1 - IG3 - Sang guard, sang priest, stormraven

BAT3
He was already onto mop up operations and I hadn't even scratched his army, but the point is to have fun and I had the whole afternoon... Dante recovered and moved to engage the demolisher. Death company and the furioso moved to engage the demolisher. The able baal turned to face the junior command squad that disembarked from the immobilized chimera. Finally, my two razorbacks continued to attack the hellhound. Combined shooting and assault saw the demolisher immobilized and stunned. The razorbacks removed both weapons from the hellhound. The Baal eliminated the junior command squad. Armor was very resilient this game. The amount of shots absorbed and refusal of armor to wreck was common to both sides.
Kill point count: BA2 - IG3 - Junior command squad

IGT3
Mop up operations begin. Combined shooting eliminated death company, stunned a baal, and caused a razorback to explode. Many shots were spent on the dreadnought to little effect.
Kill point count BA2 - IG5 - Razorback, death company

BAT4
I tried to figure out how I could get some kill points. I moved Dante to engage the psychers, the dread stayed in combat with the demolisher. The chaplain moved to engage the infantry platoon. The razor backs engaged some plasma vets. Dante was able to route the psychers in assault. The dreadnought was unable to put a single glance or wound on the demolisher. The razorback exploded the plasma vet chimera, causing 6 to die in the explosion. The chaplain died to the power blob.
Kill point count BA4 - IG6 - Plasma vet chimera, psychers, chaplain.

IGT4
Mop up continues. Combined fire from the vendetta, infantry platoon, and melta vets resulted in the destruction of the dreadnought. Dante took 2 wounds from the company command squad and special weapons squad. Finally, the basilisk wrecked 1 of the baal predators. In an odd twist of fate, marbo killed himself with his demo charge. It was off because nearly ever template my friend put down was on target or scattered a small enough amount to still be very effective.
Kill point count BA5 - IG8 - Dreadnought, baal, marbo.

BAT5
Still scratching for any kill points I can muster, I charge a half strength Dante into the company command squad. It results in a stalemate as Dante puts down 2 wounds and takes 1 in return. My remaining baal goes out of its way to attack the hellhound and immobilizes it. Finally, an assault squad destroys the remnants of his fleeing plasma vet squad.
Kill point count BA6 - IG8 - Plasma vets

IGT5
Combined fire from his vendetta, melta vets, and two chimeras caused my remaining baal predator to explode. His basalisk destroyed my remaining razorback. Dante died to the company command squad.
Kill point count BA6 - IG11 - Baal, razorback, Dante

Post game:
I made two critical mistakes in this game. One, I should have moved flat out with the storm raven on turn 1. The stormraven was going to be his top target reguardless of its location, so the closer it gets before it is destroyed the better. Death company, the chaplain, and the furioso killed four or five guardsmen the entire game. Way too many points doing nothing. Second, I should have found a way to get Dante to fire on the demolisher. The demolisher was the biggest threat to Dante, the sang guard, and the priest. I should have either found a way to take it out or dropped into a location in which I would have been protected from it.
I had fun and I look forward to the next game.

Dear Games Workshop,

Paper is totally over powered! I can't believe how badly you guys screwed up. Why can't you make armies balanced, like Scissors? I quit!
