So a friend of mine wants to play in a tournament that is coming up, he has asked me to play him and others for practice,
only problem is.. I dont know warhammer that well, So I would apreciate some help in making a 2k Dwarf list.
The only Caveat: No special characters.

Do you have any model restrictions? Doesn't help to build you a list that has 3 grudgethrowers (or something) if you don't even own a single one...

Here's a list my friend runs (or something close, anyway):

1 Dwarf Lord - great weapon, Rune of Resistance, Rune of Preservation, Rune of Stone, Rune of the Furnace, shield bearers (226)

- this guy is a pretty big point sink, and he's not invincible, no matter what you do. I'd try to protect him enough to keep the points safe, but cheap enough to get good stuff.

1 Thane - battle standard bearer, Rune of Fire, Master Rune of Gromil, Master Rune of Spite (165)

- protect your BSB at all costs.

1 Runesmith - shield, Rune of Stone, Master Rune of Balance(127)

- a lot of people will say that one Runesmith is risky business. It is. But it works out okay.

31 Dwarf Warriors - shields, great weapons, musician, standard, Veteran (366)
16Dwarf Warriors - Shields, musician, Veteran (159)

- this unit's designed to hit the flank and strip ranks, or to hold off someone for a bit. It doesn't win. Ever.

1 Cannon - Engineer, brace of pistols, Rune of Forging, Rune of Burning (150)
28 Hammerers - shields, musician, standard, Gate Keeper, Rune of Determination (414)
15 Miners - musician, standard, Prospector, steam drill (243)
1 Grudge Thrower - Engineer, brace of pistols, Rune of Accuracy, Rune of Penetrating (150)

- the war machines protect themselves with the Engineer and his pistols. For 20pts, you get an extra wound, two Stand and Shoot pistol shots, two extra close-combat attacks, and an (okay) special ability.
Honestly, the Organ Gun is inferior to the Grudge Thrower in every way, except its ability to lay down the hurt on small units or skirmishers.

Total: 2000

thanks guys, the only restriction was no SC, its even more frustrating now as I cant find my dwarf army book.

I like the idea of a big unit o dwarfs it works for me alot (or did in 7th).
Any thoughts on an Anvil?

ok i will post up my (and by "my" i mean "your") list

I have issues with the anvil. It can do some incredible things, but I find myself setting up situations where rolling a one on the standard power could lose me the game. That, or it blows up, taking all my magic resistance with it.

Or it gets targeted with a Pit, Dwellers, or Sun...

Very cool, but too vulnerable and not quite reliable enough for my tastes.
