Subject: Fanatics and "The Hand Of Gork"
|

Bounding Black Templar Assault Marine
|
Hello all!
I had a little trick I wanted to run by you all to see if it's something that would actually be legal game wise, now I don't have my copy of the BRB with me at the moment and am posting this from my girlfriends iPad so forgive me if this has a really simple andswer and I am beign intensely stupid.
Anyway, my question is thus.
"The Hand Of Gork" allows me to pick up any unit and move it 3D6" to 5D6" anywhere on the board with any facing as-long as they Are one inch away from the enemy.
Now were I to use that to pick up one small sacrifice unit of goblins with 3 fanatics in it and throw them into the middle of the enemy providing I got the spell off, would I be able to unleash the fanatics from the unit? Since the rule book says "Must be released when the concealing unit comes within 8" of an enemy unit?
Any help and sage advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

You would:
Remove the unit
Place the unit
Measure to see if the unit is now within 8".
Assumign it is, you release the fanatics from where the unit currently is. You cannot release the fanatics from any further back as they did not move to within 8" - you appeared within 8"

So I'd be able to place the Unit say..3" from an empire gunline, place them 1" from my goblins and throw the fanatics through the enemy's?

Yep. Thats one of the best uses for that spell, along with shoving a big troll unit in someones flank....

Would it not be a bit redundant with the Mangler Squig?..Since when you move it the squig wouldn't be able to make use of it's movement/attacks?
Although on the off chance it DOES survive to the next turn it might be good

Its more the threat it poses. The enemy units will struggle to reposition to shoot it, and in doing so arent shooting at other units of yours.

Ahhh, the same applies to a big unit of trolls I suppose, by the time the enemy reforms to be able to deal with them, you'd be able to charge from the front and most likely the rear?

Pretty much. You also force them to deal with them - 6 or 9 trolls is dangerous to anything!

I have never tried out trolls in any army list. The Ld4 Stupidity test always scares me off investing points in them

Just have to have the general in range or attach a character to the unit with the charmed shield or something.
The changes to stupidity really hurt where even if your 1" away from the enemy unit and you fail your test, you can't shamble into combat anymore. Dumb.

This is a valid tactic and one that can work very well if your opponent has formed up a line of units with minimal (<2 inch) gap between)
I played an Empire army just after the new rules released, he had 4 units in a line with just 1" between each.
I dropped a unit of NG in the far flank, released 3 fanatics and each bounced through all 4 units, causing carnage!

Funny how fast those lil' guys can be. Quicker than an eagle in flight, no sweat.
Though the only time I've seen this first-hand was when a fanatic flew back into the Night Goblins, into the Boar Boyz, through the Black Orcs, and then was promptly killed by the giant who, having been slain via these antics, fell on the hopped-up gobbo.
