Okay, so my room's pretty untidy... lots of models strewn about all over the place and thus I tend to end up inadvertently knocking stuff over whilst doing any kind of delicate modelling task (clumsy gene?)... This past week I must have dropped about 6-7 things on the floor varying from heads, forgeworld shoulderpads to plasma pistols (all stuff you don't want to lose). Although I've not lost anything I have spent up to an hour combing the floor for them.

I think it's probably one of the most frustrating things in the hobby to lose an hour of painting time to combing the floor swearing under your breath.

Anyone have any funny stories about losing models or their parts? Be it losing them on the floor or, hell, in a pet?

One of my friends brought a whole bunch of old RT/2nd ed stuff. As I was looking for bits to convert a Canoness at the time, I managed to trade for the only Plasma Pistol that happened to come with the stuff.

Anyway during the long time it took to track down the body for the Canoness (wanted to convert Ashlynn D'elyse from Warmachine and no where sold it around here at all) I just placed the pistol in the container I kept the bits I had been collecting for possible use in the conversion. When it seemed like I wouldn't be able to find the base model I looked at others and while seeing if the pistol would work on some of the tests with blu-tac I managed to drop the pistol, which being a small piece of plastic bounced away. A while later I finally found the base model and decided I might just put one of the hand flamers I got in the trade on it instead. I dropped the mold I made for the small greenstuffed fleur de lys on the model's shoulder.

I searched a bit for the mold, but couldn't find it, however I found the plasma pistol almost instantly while looking for the mold so made a new one and got on with the initial plan.

Nothing funny about losing a model that you spent time, effort, and money on.

Don't know if this counts, but a mate of mine had his entire Bretonian army destroyed.....

His old man was a part time DJ, lugging all his speakers, stacks etc to and from shows.

My mate had stacked his Bretonians in their carry cases, in the hallway. Dad comes back, knackered, at 3am and starts unloading his gear in the hallway.

You can see where this is going right?

As he lugs the BIGGEST speaker stack out of the truck, I mean this thing was huge and went 50kgs easy, he loses control of the trolly thing he was using to unload the stuff and BAM! Right into the carry cases holding 3000pts of fully painted Bretonian chivalry!

My mate was gutted.........
Completely crushed, still I suppose that's what you get for not bothering to put your mini's where they should have been. Like your games room/bed room.......

Heed this little tale well friends, it could be you next

this is why i have invested in 2 glass display cases for my bedroom, not only does it look nice but its somewhere safe to put them and all unfinished work gets put into a plastic see through container ontop of my wardrop (if there large) or into a clear draw under my desk (also plastic)

I kept a number of unfinished models in a brown plastic Pistol Case... Note I did not own any hand guns so it was the only pistol case in the house. Lost track of it and the housemates claimed to have not seen it.... Three months later I found it in a place I had searched a dozen times.. right where I had left it, under my desk.

I'm _still_ looking for 1 half of the deathwind missle launcher for my drop pod. was putting it together and accidentially dropped it. got down on my hands and knees (I saw where it dropped) and searched. And searched. Months later I'm still trying to find it, though I just ended up putting the damned storm bolter on there instead.

Fortunatly I find every bit I drop on the floor, I've never lost anything. I have managed to find a simple technique that works quite well to find dropped bits. I have a very bright LED flashlight that I'll just use as a spotlight on my floor. Even in a room with three 26 watt white CFL's(each equivalent to a 100w incandescent bulb) the bright LED's will give a different reflection/shine off of what I have dropped(metal or plastic) to make it easy to spot!

A few years back when I was building a long fang squad for my space wolves (while they still had the 3rd ed codex) and dropped one of the sets of legs from the plastic devastator box, I spent about an hour searching for it and gave up after then since there was a spare set in the box. 2 years later while moving things around my room I found it under one of my sets of drawers, now this particular piece of furniture was completely flat to the floor around the edges so there was no physical way it could have got under there!!!

Haven't ever lost any models, that I am aware of, but I have misplaced a whole GW carry-case full of WH Fantasy scenery and shrubbery (don't ask me what I did with the foam inside, it's gone as well).

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

After playing a game with my newly painted Fire Warrior squad I noticed that one of their heads had disappeared. I spent about half an hour looking around the table and the floor for the head, but could not find it. I even kept checking back for a week. I'm still baffled about how I lost the head since it was painted orange and I expected it to show up well on the black floor or green tabletop. Fortunately I had some spare heads on the spru still.

Jeez these stories sure suck :-/

I find that, even using an LED flashlight (as someone said above) it still takes forever and a day to find stuff and it's usually just lodged quite close to you... say, by a chair leg, when I end up just looking under furniture, moving things and all sorts >.<

this is why you get those cases that are meant for transporting Electronic equipment.

they are about the same size as a GW case, made of bright yellow or orange plastic, and are virtually indestructable. the case wall is about 1/2 inch thick.

the only issue is you have to get custom foam for the inside, but they will never break and are even covered in shock resistant foam on the inside.

and i am always losing bits in the shag carpet. i'll be walking through my room and step on something thats been lost for ages.

Well, I lost a Necron warrior once during a game. Spent the next month or so looking for it in my dining room, under the piano, under the computer stand in bookcases; basicly everywhere that seemed logical that a model might have disappeared to

A year later, my friend emails me to tell me that he's found the missing warrior. At this point I'm quite glad , until he informs me that somehow it's inside his tau devilfish, which is completely glued shut and has been since he built it , which I can vouch for. Which has left my gaming group somewhat bemused as to how it got in their, and is still, for all intents and purposes still lost really.

I don't know if this counts, but we also lost any dice we placed under a vortex grenade template. No trace of them has ever been found.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm cursed...

Dropping a box of bits in the dark, the majority of which fell onto plants/bookshelves/shaggy carpet. Brand new, ordered from a bitz site, bought £15 of bits, only found £6 worth to this day. Christ knows where the rest it, and he ain't telling me.

I lost a lighting claw terminater at my friends during a battle. I only noticed after i got home. Rang my friend and asked if he'd look for him. To this day his never been found, I myself believe it has something to do with his wierd boy. And we shall have our vengance!

"Brothers! I have seen the future and it is grim. We shall still be fighting our fallen brothers 10,000 years from now, but we shall not be remembered. All records of us will be lost and forgotten, all knowleage of our existence denied and our name classed as heracy! We shall lose our home and spend eternety drifting through space as vengeful spectres, smiting any enermy of mankind foolish enough to stand in our way. Let these facts fuel your hate! Show no fear, show no mercy and show no remorse! We are death incarnate! We are fury given form! We are the brothers of the 2nd legion!" You should send him to me so I can give him a steam knight head and some Flesh Tearer icons :-)

Every so often when we play a game we find models from a previous game still hiding out in the trees or something
