Subject: Allocating wounds to a I.C in combat
|

If a I.C is in combat (doesn't matter if in base contact or not) can wounds be allocated to the I.C as they are part the unit, or can only allocated attacks put wounds on a I.C?
Just wondering as playing a game once and a unit of Space Marines took some wounds. I went to put one a I.C even though no attacks were allocated to the I.C and was told I couldn't do it. Though IMO the I.C is still part the unit and I can allocate wounds to any model in that unit.
Thanks

The rules for ICs and assaults are quite clear - they are treated as a separate unit while resolving attacks. Your opponent was correct.c

Page 49, ICs are separate units in combat. (resolving attacks)
THe rules for allocation state you can only allocate wounds within your unit.

But isn't the I.C still part of said unit? I know the I.C is counted as a seperate unit for attacking but what about when allocating wounds to the unit itself the I.C is part of?

He is a separate unit while resolving attacks. Resolving attacks includes removing casualties.

IC's in assault are only treated as part of the unit for assault moves and combat resolution. For everything in between they are their own separate unit.
Your IC's can't take wounds unless your opponent has models in base contact with them (or in range of models in base contact) and chooses to attack them.

As the others have said, being treated as a separate unit for purposes of attacks means attacks have to be specifically allocated against them. Just like if you were fighting a squad of marines and a dreadnought. Attacks against the Dread can't carry over to the marines, and vice versa. Even though the IC is attached.

Right getcha.
Another question. Unit is in combat with a I.C. A nearby tank explodes and hits the unit and the I.C (who is attached to the unit) do you roll to wound the I.C seperately from the tank blast or just roll for the unit as the I.C is still part of the unit?
I guess still part of the unit as the I.C is only a seperate unit for the purpose of attacking.

No. At the point the tank explodes he is not a separate unit, just another model that can be "hit" by the explosion.

I thought so. Just in combat when smacking someones face in and taking a punch counted as seperate unit.
