You'll notice that my army lists are actually very real armies and not bits of paper of text on a screen. Last army I shown you was my Blood Angels Razorback army: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/349106.page/url]Blood Angels Razorback army . Well now here is my mech Guard army

The Steel Lions are a mechanised Imperial Guard regiment which specialises in hunting and destroying traitor Space Marines. Originally the Steel Lions were just a generic Guard regiment and there niche' role came to them several years ago. The Steel Lions had battled and beaten off a Ork warband which had crashed on a nearby backwater world from a Space Hulk. The Orks were defeated and cleansed though while the Imperial Guard relaxed after their victory a ten thousand year old enemy came investigating the Space Hulk; The Black Legion.

The Black Legion wanted the Hulk as it held some kind of Chaos artifact. The Steel Lions came aware of the Black Legion presence and immediately bombarded the Chaos Space Marines make shift base of operations, the Space Hulk with several Manticore Missile Launchers. Utlimately the Space Hulk was destroyed along with the Chaos artifact. This extremely angered the Chaos Lord of the Black Legion who lead an attack on the Steel Lions and Manticore battery. The Imperial Guard as no match for the Space Marine traitors and fell quickly. The Black Legion moved on towards the Steel Lions base of operations.

Commander Beckett the leading officer of the regiment instructed all units to exchange flamer weaponry which had been previously affective against Ork xenos and switch with rare plasma weaponry and meltaguns. Luckily for the Commander plasma weaponry wasn't in short supply due to the fort dating back to the Horus Heresy itself and was stocked with anicent plasma weapons.

With the regiment mounted up and armed with a mixture of plasma guns and meltaguns Beckett issued a new commands that melta units should be paired with plasma units. All units were also made up with Veterans from the Ork campaign while new recruits held the fort or operated ordnance weaponry or driven the tanks. Beckett only wanted the best soliders and those who had trained and used the rare plasma guns before. With this tactic fire fights become short ranged which wasn't a problem for the Black Legion as it favours general Chaos Marine tactics, all the better to see the misery on the enemies face before they pass into the warp. The paired units of meltaguns and plasma guns worked incredibly affective as the meltaguns made short work out the traitors transport Rhino tanks then as the traitor scum made there way through the wreckage of the tank plasma guns blasted through power armour and slayed them where they stood.

The warband of the Black Legion was soon destroyed thanks to Commander Becketts tactics and brave soliders against such horrors. The Inquisition soon came to hear about the Steel Lions victory over the Black Legion and requested them to be formed into a small regiment and to be used to hunt traitor and renegade Space Marines. Beckett agreed, though he had little choice and him and his regiment fell under the command of the Inquisition. In return additional plasma and melta weaponry was distributed to the Steel Lions and two Vendetta gunships were full time attached to the regiment.

Commander Beckett soon promoted his long time and trusted friend Hackett to senior officer. Hackett has the nickname "Hackett the Butcher" thanks to his large knife which is known to butcher enemies in close combat once the plasma guns have cooled down.

Often before a single shot is fired Commander Beckett will offer surrender of the enemy Space Marine force, though if a traitor force from the Horus Heresy this is never offered. More often than not surrender is always refused. Beckett will then declare he will rain down with the "Emperors Hammer and Anvil with Smite" most Space Marines believe this just to be a figure of speech unware a triple battery of Manticore Missile Launchers are standing by! Even mighty Land Raiders cannot hold up to the ordnance power of a Manticore.

In attack formations a single Hellhound is always deployed. Even though all Chimera transports are fitted with heavy flamers the sheer power of a Hellhound inferno cannon is a worry for those in power armour. It is particularly affective for clearing out areas held by traitors using scout armour from a distance. A common tactic is for a Veteran unit equipped with meltaguns to support a Hellhound. The Veterans will blast open a enemy tank and the Hellhound will bathe the former occupants with liquid fire.

Currently Vendettas Skyhawk and Jetfire are attached to the regiment. Combined they have fifty seven enemy armoured target kills. The Imperial Navy has released no further information and files on both are currently classified.

Not played against Dark Eldar but can cause issues for Grey Knights

On the bases you mean? Just based them and painted the grey on after.

Thanks mate. I don't mind painting tanks as they're quite easy and can paint one in a night with decals and wash. Can get boring if you do one after the other but I tend to work in squads so infantry and a tank and keep doing that.

I agree. In small doses they're fun. I usually like to reward myself after the long, tedious, process of infantry painting with a nice tank. Plus gives me another reason to pull out the airbrush.
Do you or have you ever used an airbrush. I think it's a godsend for vehicles, easily turning that one tank a night into two or three.

I've considered a air brush but for infantry as it will be loads quicker. I guess would be quicker for a tank as well.

As for the pictures I'll upload them onto Dakka
