Land Raider Pilot on Cruise Control

Played a 2000 point game last night against an Eldar player.

3rd turn I rolled to bring the kopta in from reserve an outflanked it directly behind his wave serpent that had Eldrad and a unit of Dire Avengers in it.

I shot my rokkits and missed.

I then assaulted and managed a wrecked result forcing him to disembark.

Now here's the question:

Did the unit die because I blocked the only access point preventing a normal and emergency disembarkation? - the kopta is a jetbike and the jet bike rule states that it's treated as a bike, which should mean it's capable of blocking.

Thoughts?

Yes, you prevented normal disembarkation by blocking the rear exit.

No, you did not kill the unit as they can still emergency disembark anywhere 2" from the hull. (P67, BRB)

Assuming that the units normally die if their only access route is blocked then I say yes.

As above. Emergency disembark covers this exact situation, where normal ports are blocked.

I don't know!

So when a bike or copta has had a damage of 1-5 the man can disimbark?I thought the man yould die when the bike was dstroyed...

Blocking just the access points does not prevent emergency disembarks, you have to completely surround a vehicle to do that. Besides that, the base of a kopta works no different than the base of your warboss, so you can force the eldar to make an emergency disembark by placing a single kopta in front of their access point.

Umm. No, the bike dying has nothing to do with this. Bikes and 'man's are the same unit.

@Phototoxin: The only way to force a kill nowadays like this is to completely surround the vehicle so that there is no place that a model can be placed within 2" of the vehicle. Again P67, BRB. This can result in partial kills on a unit. For example, if you can only fit 2 of the 5 models in a unit within 2" of a vehicle during disembark or emergency disembark, the other 3 are killed.

Bikes and Jetbikes are not vehicles.

Similar situation came up the other day where I did not have a dead LR completely surrounded, but mostly surrounded. There were two areas (on opposite corners) where he could fit in about 4 of 6(?) GK terminators.
He could not fit all of the models in either area together. So he placed what he could in one, and killed the rest.

Can you emergency dismebark out of coherency? Our answer was no, but would just like confirmation.

Disembarking is a move, and you cannot move such that you end out of coherency. So you played it right

You've broken the rules then?

Reread the wrecked! entry, and note that the vehicle becomes a wreck AFTER you disembark; prior to that point the vehicle is still a vehicle, and impassable terrain

Thanks for all the replies!

It seems a rematch is in order then. We're both relatively new to 40k still, so that caused some confusion.

I'll just have to use a unit of Boyz next time!

try a grotswarm

Hilarity ensues when 30 dirt cheap inoffensive little spods can intimidate terminators so much that they'd rather die in a burning wreck than face them

When a Vehicle is being used for Transport (two+ units, the Vehicle Unit and the Embarked unit[s]) and the vehicle dies, the embarked unit[s] can bail out. The crew of the vehicle die though. So you could save the Terminators in the back, but the pilot and gunner are toasty.

I picture it more as grots jamming their little green arms and heads into the windows, firing slots, banging on the doors, generally keeping the termies from being able to get past.

My way is funnier though But if I remember my lore right, grots are clever little gits aren't they? they probably welded/glued the doors shut while someone else destroyed it.

Making it an unusual case where the vehicle exploding is preferable to just being wrecked - you can save two or three passengers by placing them in the centre of where the vehicle once was, and possibly cause wounds to the blighters who have surrounded you.
