Hey folks,

I'm JUST getting into Warhammer Fantasy. I'm going to be starting Lizardmen, my wife is getting into Wood Elves.

I've played a couple of 1000 point games with a friend's old Lizardmen figures. I'm trying not to go too balls nuts buying Lizardmen because I have a very large Ork army that I spend a lot of time with, and I don't want another really huge Warhammer Fantasy army.

I have an opportunity to get a fairly cheap Stegadon, so my question is, for Lizardmen, is this a worthwhile unit to have? I've done some checking, and a lot of sources seem to be saying that the Stegadon is sort of "meh". I don't want to spend money on a model that won't really be useful to me.

So how would you rate the Stegadon? Is it a "Must Have" unit for a Lizardmen player? At what point values does having a Stegadon in your army become valuable? 1500? 2000? 2500? 3000+?

Thank you for your help!

I am a lil different than some players as I like to play what I think looks cool, or something with fluff so I would play the Stegadon. ( I play more for the fun and seeing everyone's army) I didnt play with anyone that was hardcore though. There just wasnt any that were that way for whfb. oh also if your looking for unpainted mini's for wood elves lmk I have boxes for core units. Or I also have painted models too =) I just have crap loads of wood elves lol.

It's not a must have. Liz got some amazing units all around. Saurus warriors, poisony skinks, salamanders, slann. Stegadons are just another good unit with some cool options. It can help you get your point total quicker if you're worried about spending $$$

Hmm are they worth it?
I guess it depends on the type mostly.
Mounts:
Chief – like all charracter ridden monster suffers from high points cost and the cannonball magnet syndrome, there is that one item that makes it devastating.
Priest – an interresting support piece sporting one of the steepest of pricetags, utilizing the engine's capabilities is key in making it worthwhile.

Regular – Used to seem cheap but in the era of hydras and hellpits, not so much. Still the cheapest way aroiund to get both imact hits and thunderstomp. It's shooting attacks is meh.
Ancient – Lets see here, S6 check, Impacts and thunderstomp check, 4D6 poisoned darts that have yet to suffer from the multiple shots -1 modifier check. Sounds like a steal to me.
