So, I've recently been chewing through the Gaunts Ghosts novels like wildfire, and have fallen in love with the Tanith First and Only and I have decided to paint up some TFO's.
ou
Im wondering how to shade the models and with what colour... in the interest of having the models look... better.

The Fatigues are black. Boots are black, helm is black, weapon is black, hands are exposed fleshy areas are tallarn flesh, and virtually every piece of armour is Catachan green. I am not however doing camo cloaks for these models, as all my greenstuff creations look like -expletive deleted-.

Could anyone point me towards a thread on doing shades for guard clothing? or can I do shading on black fatigues at all?

I would be much indebted to you if you'd be kind enough to point me towards a flesh tutorial, as my flesh areas are quite literally just a coat of tallarn flesh. Nothing else. No eyes. Nothing. Imagine how THAT looks.

And before y'all judge me on my crap painting ability, my strength lies in playing the game and getting myself out of very bad situations effectively.

I don't know of any tutorials, but typically, you don't shade black, black is as dark as it gets. However, to break up the monotony, grab yourself some Adeptus Battlegrey and do some light single-line highlights along the sharp edges of the armor. That'll really make it pop.

All of the green parts can be washed with either Devlan Mud wash or Thraka Green wash (both Citadel paints from GW). Use the Devlan Mud if you want a really grungy look, use Thraka Green if you want the green parts to look... Well, green.

To wash the fleshy parts, pick up some Ogryn Flesh wash, apply and let dry. After it's dried, you can re-apply it in the areas that you want to darken up, such as the eyes, under the chin, etc. If it looks too dark, take the Tallarn Flesh you've got and do some single-line highlighting along the tip of the nose, chin and over the eyebrows, just for a bit of contrast.

You can see the techniques I mentioned in the photo of my Termy Librarian below, even if I used different colors for this particular guy:

Thank you very, very much, this sounds exactly what I need to make my army "realistic", mine look much to much like action man dolls right now.

Washes and Foundation paints, man. It makes painting models too easy.
