”Blaugrana” Space Marines.

Hi, this is a blog/log over a project I have been working on for a year, maybe more. So far most of the ”work” have been in my head, I’ve had a few models, a theme and a basic idea of what I wanted, but didn’t have the paint scheme for it. But I do now!

To understand the idea of this project, I have to explain a bit. In real life, one of my big, if not my biggest passion, is football, european football that is. In particular I’m a huge fan of the Spanish/Catalan club, FC Barcelona. I’ve been following the club for 12 years now, and one day it struck me, that I could transfer this into my hobby of WH40k. I chose Space Marines because I wanted to try something new, as I usually play Imperial Guard. Also Marines seem the best choice for the color scheme.

The army will be played as Blood Angels, since I wanted it to be close combat oriented, the color scheme of the standard troops will be a copy of the Brazen Claws. Regarding the color scheme, I tried a few different options, but I just couldn’t get one that looked good in blue/red, and since Brazen Claws look kinda good, I decided I would just take that.

For elite troops I will try and mimick some of the away colors of the club, for example, for my Sanguinary Guard I intend to do them in either a very light green or blue.

I will be trying my hand with small greenstuff addons to some of the troops, I have one in mind particularly for my sergeant of an assault squad, to make him represent the very characteristic captain of the team.

I have also considdered incorporating St. Jordi, the patron saint of Catalonia on a banner, to use instead of the one in the Sanguinary Guard box, and also making use of other things related to St. Jordi displayed on shoulderpads and such, but I haven’t got that all figured out yet. I’m also considdering if it would be taking it too much off the path of what it was starting out as.

If you should follow this, beware that you won’t witness exceptionel painting skills, amazing OSL and the stuff you find in some of the other blogs. I decided to make this mostly as a way of keeping myself motivated, as I have a tendency to get tired of painting/modelling – but I really want to see this through.

I will post pictures whenever I get a chance to take some of new progress. Comments and critique is most welcome.

EDIT:

If I did this right, I should now have an image in the galley.

Just ignore his two buddies - this is the first real prototype, I posted it earlier in the WIP section and good some good feedback, and I'll tro to incorporate the techniques and advice I got there in my coming models.

Here is a picture of the home colors:

Here is the current away colors, which I might try to use for my Sanguinary guard:

Also, even though I intend of playing with them, I mainly chose my models based on if they look awesome or not.

And whenever I get around to making vehicles, I plan to name them according to the legends of the club, especially when it comes to dreadnoughts. I'm not all that bright on the lore of the game, but as I understand it, great heroes are put into dreadnoughts, or something like that, so it shall be the same for this army.
