What should I go for for a competetive GK army? say 1000p?

I was thinking 3 boxes of PA GK's, but what else? As in HQ ect?

HQ wise, you have a Brotherhood Champ at 100 points base, then a Brother Captain at 150 and Grand Master at 175,all before added on kit.You could probably go to 4 boxes,4 combat squads of PAGK,run at 100-130 points before kit, depending on where they come from in the FOC.

For low points an inquisitor is a good value if kitted well... Starts low and can grant nice bonuses to the units he joins. At 1k points you can probably start looking for a grand master or a librarian, but it depends on what you plan to do with the rest of those points.

Basic boxes of GKs are a good buy, since you can make them into 4 different units in your army. I'd use that as a start.

In fact, I'd take 2 boxes of GKs, 2 boxes of Termies, and pick up an HQ (Grand Master).
Next I'd add two Dreads (with autocannons - not included in the box).

Ah psirifleman? I have heard about those. I have also heard that that termies are over rated, cost quite a bit, and don't do a huge amount.

There are two kinds of termies... The paladins, which are 2 wounds termies, cost more. Basic termies are troops for GKs and cost the same as basic SM termies, but don't have the option for dedicated transport or for assault versions (meaning: no storm shield).

[Edit: to be more clear: They standard termies suffer from the same shortcomings of the standard terminators (not assault ones), though are not limited to powerfists. They also lack the dedicated land raider, which may or may not be an issue. Otherwise they are somewhat better than their standard space marines counterparts, what with the squad-wide force weapons, psycannons and psychich powers. Paladins on the other hand make for a very costly deathstar that suffers HEAVILY from low ap high/str fire. I'm quite unimpressed by them, but against some armies are simply unstoppable]]
