Unless your playing mainly infantry based armies, too many venoms not enough Dark Lances....

I like the first list better, but thats only because i like the idea of Beasts, never seen them used, not sure how well they really perform.

Yeah because only moving six to be able to fire the guys inside and putting 2 killpoints within 18 inches of the enemy is so good. The dark lance trueborn are very good, I've been taking them to tournamnets for a while now and they always work good for me. They are almost too small to attract attention, most people don't shoot them untill later in the game.

Incinerating your hopes

The way to properly use True Born with blasters is to move them 12", dismount to get an extra couple inches, and then fire away, all in the first turn. It works very well.

If they are mounted in them, yes...

Also, how is 15 dark lances "too few"?

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

I started by playing triple blaster trueborn myself, but I've shifted away from them, towards the dark lance squads. The trueborn always have problems with the venom blowing up, and now I have some empty venoms to provide cover and pick up troops.

I'm trying to find the correct balance between venoms and dark light weaponry. I was playing 6 venoms which is a fine amount of firepower, but can't really afford to take losses. That's why next I'm thinking of overdoing it with 8 venoms. As for lances, yea I only have 15, but beastpacks can multicharger vehicles to help out, and if I pick the scourges then they help surppress. I have to say the scourges have really been great in my test games, but I'm not sure whether I should try get in some CC power.

The number of Venoms is impressive but they are solely anti-infantry, not anti-tank making them less useful.

Could you maybe continue this comment? I don't really know what you are suggesting for me to do. Is the 3rd list with d-lance scourges better? It has already 21 dark lances.

Yes that is exactly what I do. The trueborn sit in cover, and the venom flies around by itself. The 12 shots that it can put out is your main way of killing large infantry squads at range. What makes venoms so good is that you can take them and they do not take up any of the important force org slots (elites, heavys, HQ) because they are dedicated transports.

@haizelhoff - I like that last list. I am not sure how the scourges work out with dark lances, but it might work. if I took scourges I would give them haywire blasters so I can suppress vehicles, but I think that dark lances will work fine too. The only thing I worry about is running out of area terrain. That is 18 guys that need to sit in cover or else they will be rocked by long range shooting.
