Long-Range Black Templar Land Speeder Pilot




I have decded to make an empre army based around knights. Has anyone tried this? I am trying to go stritly from a Knightly order perspective. The entire army has a GW except the BSB, so what do you thingk will it work?

It comes in at 2250. It will throw out a ton of attacks and it will be fast and hard.
Any other advice, i am going for knights and such only.

You might consider splitting one of the smaller knight units into 2 of 6 with a musician and using them for bait

How wide are you planning on running the IC knights?

Will have difficulty with magic defense with only 1 priest, watch out for metal!

Had a similar idea, may also give this a try

The knights will be used as a hoard 10 wide and 4 deep in the middle of the field.

I think that this list would run much safer if you put a priest in each unit, or ideally have one led by an arch lector. Just heavy armour, shield and barded horse would do fine equipment wise.

I don't know how much that will compromise your theme, but for an all cavalry list it would be safer. Also, my rule of thumb for Empire is to throw a priest/arch lector in every unit which I will should be fighting.

Also, barding is a waste of points on the bsb as you gave him the Armour of meteoric Iron. I'd probably just give him the enchanted shield and full plate with barding (to save points).

Drop Huss and get some normal warrior priests on barded steeds in here You really have no where to get the points from save for dropping some IC knights but i think you should run your normal knights at 14 or 15 strong + warrior priest.

I have faced an all-knight empire list (with steam cannon) and it did not do well at all against me :-/. It may have been a bad matchup... but I did not get the impression that it was too viable.

Is there a reason you don't want to go for the horse-masters (Bretonnia) instead?

I already have 13k in bretonnians and a near perfect W/D/L record with them of 53/10/2. Empire just leems like it would be fun to throw out there, plus you cant field a bretonnian knight hoard with great weapons.

My first thought is this list is all hammer and no anvil. Magic and war machines, most of which allows no armor save and Unbreakable units are going to cause you problems and eat you alive. You only have three units and only one of them will stay on the table for any lenght of time. That being said I have been considering running Knight heavy lists. The reason being they are really the only effective hammer units empire has available. I would run them with other units but this is your list. It does have the benefit of making enemy warmachines useless after turn two as you will likely be in combat.

I definatley second the adding of warrior priests in your units. They are an expensive choice but hatred on your knights will go a long way. I would also considerer a wizard. A wizard with the feedback scroll has the ability to kill off an enemy wizard, lore of life will do wonders for buffing your knight units including the ability to re grow casualties. Most importantly you can take a dispell scroll. If the enemy cast Dwellers on your unit of IC Knights, its game over for you. Plus if your opponent is throwing dispell dice at your wizard, you can sneak WP buffs past them.

I would consider a Captasus or a small unit of knights to hunt warmachines. Giving the Captasus the Casket might be a good way to negate some of the nastier spells.

Also consider the crown of command and rod of command. I have been playing a unit of 15 IC knights with a GM with the Giant Blade and Dawn Stone and a WP with Crown of Command. They are extremely hard to break. Also take a look at using the Obsidian Loadstone. You can give it to a warrior priest and his entire unit gets a 4+ ward save vs. spells. On that massive unit of knights this would be golden.

The Razor Standard (Makes your attacks armour piercing)
Wailing Banner (Causes Terror)
Ranger Banner (ignore difficult terrain) if that 40 knight unit runs through difficult terrain you will be rolling a lot of 1's.
Banner of Arcane Warding (5+ ward save vs. spells)

also good choices for Knight units.
