Finally took the opportunity and picked up the AI books at Adepticon this year and the local player base has been quickly growing ever sense. We also took advantage of the free shipping offer to order a couple extra planes from Forgeworld, but not planning ahead, I didn't think to order any of the landing pads.
Fast forward a little over a month and I'd have to say the core group has gotten a pretty good grasp on the basics and are ready to progress from the standard dogfights into some of the more advanced missions. Re-enter the lack of foresight to order some of the forgeworld landing pads. No fear, rummaging through the "box o' random stuff that could one day make a cool piece of terrian" box, I stumbled across two plastic du-dades that used to hold a roll of industrial plastic wrap. The rest as they say.... is attached below!
A group shot of the pair. The actual landing pad areas are roughly identical in size to the
FW offerings.
Close-ups of the Small Landing Pad. As stated above, the actual landing area is the same size as the
FW pad, but I thought the outer ring added an interesting bit of detail.

Close ups of the Large Landing Pad. I knew I'd never be able to replicate the quality of the
FW landing pad (at least not in the time I wanted to spend on these), but I still wanted to take some cues from the design. I really liked the corner entrances, so opted to replicate them on the two opposing corners.

The models was primed using a textured black spray paint to give it a bit more 'weight' and additional detail will be added with the paint job, including a double aquila pattern on the pad surface.

I hope you like the first attempt at AI terrain. If these turn out well, I have a couple ideas rolling around for objectives themed to the different races. Something about an eldar landing pad built of wraithbone...
