Well, I really didn't want it to happen but time makes fools of us all.

I fell in love with modeling Catachans. I am currently working my way through the battleforce and simply love the raw amount of variability in the models that isn't found in Cadians. It is not beyond my skill level to even cut bits off other kits to add even more variance, so no 2 of my models are going to be the same from them.

Contrasting that to the cadians, who are almost identical from squad to squad, and I don't think I can bring myself to model them again.

I have 2 questions.

1) Did anybody else stumble upon a kit/army/style that they fell in love with? I truly expected them to be bland and samey but was completely surprised by the diversity.

2)What is a easy/accessible way to further specialize/customize my catachans to make them even more unique?

Thanks

-cgmckenzie

Well, for me it was the cadian when they came in plastic! Even before that I wanted an IG army, but all models exept catachans was in metal then. And I just don't find pure catachans goodlooking. They're to bulky, like mini-ogryns
And cadiand can be a lot to fun to make conversions of

My veterans is as simple as I buyed one box of catachans and one box of cadians and mixed the parts! It will take som knife-work, sawing and use of GS, but in the end it will look quite good

Uggh I personally hate the catachan models. The fact that they all look like roided up body builders with guns just doesn't appeal to me On the other hand, the Elysians and DKoK are really awesome. I just wish they weren't so damn expensive

Just my 2 cents

Well, it was the chaos marines for me. Initially I found much of their stuff annoying, but it grew on me. I still hate the damn poles and trophies on the helmets, but everything else has grown on me. I especially love the CSM line-squads because so much can be don in the way of awesomifying them from just the parts contained in the box

Green-stuff. I don't have the picture at this moment, because I have not taken it, because I dont have my catachans painted. Let me do that first, and you will be bubbly with glee.
The other thing you need to remember is the compatibility of stuff going the OTHER way. Catachan arms make for a quick kharn-the-betrayer, and the catachan sword-for-a-knife makes a quick power sword. I also reccomend you have no fewer than 3 hughey-type helicopters, paired with a single Arnie-tachan (I have yet to see one)

Other things to be done are bionic bits, easiest from necron parts (perhaps a Colonel Steeltoe Machor to match your Ironhand Straken)
Dedicate specific squads to specific xeno specialisation, one squad kitted out with orc left-overs, another with tau left-overs, a third with traitor... etc. Use your green-stuff to give some guys horse-shoe moustaches, side-burns, insane chest and arm hair, etc.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from.

I started with Black Templars mainly because of the 3rd Ed box set. I then picked up the Armageddon Codex and happened to spy the Steel Legion. 6.5k points later and I think I can say I'm officially hooked. I started some Cadians with FW respirators to go with them but I keep going back to add to my Steel Legion.

Did GW ever make DKoK or ASL in quantities that enable building an army entirely of them? As much as I do love the Catachans, I think the DKOK looks far better but don't feel like spending forge world levels of money for that kind of an upgrade.

I am trying to kitbash with my cadian arms and such but can't figure out how to not make it look like he lifts weights only on one side.

BTW, what is green stuff, some type of clay?

Yes, green stuff is a type of modelling clay produced by GW. It comes in two parts and once you mix them together they start to dry (slowly, but surely), so it'll stay good even when it isn't kept in airtight container so long as it isn't mixed. It used a lot to convert and all that.

I fell in love with Vostroyans but they are all metal so that's not going to be consummated.

This, a thousand times. I had a friend where I used to live who had a whole Vostroyan army; it was awesome.

I also really wish I had the funds to do a Death Korps of Krieg or Elysian Drop Troop FW army.

Incorporte bits of terrain onto the bases to give them more of a jungle feel. Paint their faces in that grease-stick camo.

I saw both ranges and decided to make an army of each. Currently at an impasse on whether to start my FW chaos renegades army....

Is there any possibility of GW releasing non-FW DKoK kits? A DKoK battleforce would be amazing.
