Okay, first off, I'll admit that I've not done a ton of reading in my 40k Rulebook yet (I've been horribly bad about it, as I've been reading tons of regular 40k books lately). As a result, between what I have read in Space Wolves Codex, is that when you convert a Grey Hunter into a Standard Bearer, you gain certain benefits (of which, I know). Now, what I'm unsure of, is that does the Grey Hunter (physical) model stay the same, or do I have to use:

If I'm not mistaken, is it 1 Standard Bearer for 10 Grey Hunters (within range of course)? (or is it 5?)

With the benefits you gain, what are his limitations?

Also, if I do use that model, does a generic standard come in the box, or will I have to frankenstein one from somewhere else? If so, where's a good kit to borrow one from?

Thanks in advance.

I dont recall their being a requirement on how many grey hunters are in a squad before you can purchase the Banner.

That being said, there is one you may take from the box.

However, it is one that must be placed on the backpack of a grey hunter, not one that comes situated in the hand of the model, as in the photo you included in your post.

You can do a bit of butcher work with a thunderhammer and the banner to make a hand held version tho, if you so desire.

Back banners are more for individual or squad heraldry. Standard Bearers should have the big handheld versions.

As an alternative to the old metal model, the banner from the regular Marine Command Squad will do the job... but yes, you'll need to paint the design on there yourself. Or print one off on transfer paper.

I always prefered the Metal one...
Then again having 4/6 of them would get samey...
Best to use something that sticks out so your opponent knows they have it, he might think you're pulling a fast one otherwise.

For the dedicated Standard Bearer (that I linked the pic of), since it looks like I'll have to find a standard for it (since it seems like one doesn't come in the box), where is a good place to get one? I don't mind ordering another unit to get it, but I'd prefer to not take from the Marine Command Squad to do it (unless it's the only way).

As for his limitations? It he just limited to the fire of a single bolt pistol?

He is just equiped with it. It doesn't replace anything in is wargear or anything like that. And there is no requirment for him to have it. Just the ten points to buy it.

WYSIWYG dictates that the Wolf Standard be visually represented on the model.

And OP the model you have referenced is from when the 3rd Edition codex had a really big standard as a wargear item, not the Wolf Standards that we can now put into our packs.

I very much agree with that.

Codex simply states:
* One Grey Hunter may have the honour of carrying
- Wolf Standard

So there's no size requirement, or trade-off , to taking the standard.

(Unless I missed someone mentioning it earlier) :: Was that "One Per 10 Grey Hunters"...."One Unit on the Battlefield" <--- One of the things I've not figured out yet, but I'm wanting to think it's per squad, so if that's the case, I can have multiples (depending on army point size of course) with my Grey Hunters squads, yes?

Have a look at page 70 of the codex. The Wolf Standard is the big standard, not a back banner.

Although you could still use the Back-banner as one, so long as you only use the back-banner to represent Wolf standards.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

You can use whatever you want to represent the Standard. If you do a big wolf head on someone's backpack that is fine. The key here is that it should be distinctive within the army, so no one that has the same bits should have the Standard.
