So, I have been wanting to do this for a while now, but I think i'm going to do it. I plan to start a Warhammer Larp. The problem is I can't decide on weather to do a WHFB or 40k Larp, and I was wondering if the good people at Dakka could help me out, so, what say you Dakka? 40k or Fantasy?

Fantasy because it partially inspired off of real world history meaning the costumes would be easier to make then again a lot of the imperial clothing/armour is based off of stuff from the middle ages or 1700's - early
1900's . Love the idea by the way.

Fantasy.
If you do 40k everyone will come as a marine and you will have true-scale issues...

Fantasy, because 40k would be sort of hard with the ranged weapons and costumes.
I wouldn't mind dressing of as an Exalted Champion of Khorne and screaming BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GAWD all day until i can't speak anymore .

All good points, but what about membership? 40k seems to be the more popular game, but Fantasy (as a genre) seems to be best overall for Larps... Oh, and BTW, there's a True-Scale issue with Dwarves too!

Fantasy. LARPing gunplay is damn hard, and also, how do you represent a Hormagaunt horde?
Hell of a lot easier to have a Chaos Maruader with an axe than an Obliterator or Carnifex.

Alright, I've been thinking. As far as I can see, Fantasy seems to be the best choice, but one of the most common issues about 40k is the guns. The thing is, that's a problem in WHFB too; while they might not use guns as much, they still use them quite often. I'm also not sure how magic and other game mech. would work...

Ah, yes. I've been looking at them and there rules, but they do not quite fit what I want to do with the Larp, though. On the other hand, the pics are awesome!

You're doing it wrong!
The correct God of all LARPing events is 'Piss'ed' the ancient God of 'getting out your skull on Mead and tonking people with foamrubber weapons until you realise it's not actually dark, you've just gone blind so it must mean it's time for bed'.

A cautionary tale: In the aftermath of the Manchester Arndale bombing, police officers reported seeing the shape of a large individual apparently brandishing a weapon in the Centre. Armed police were subsequently summoned. Turns out they were being menaced by the lifesize cardboard space marine in the store front of Games Workshop.
The moral of the story is: When running around in "armour" brandishing rubber swords and shields, you may attract negative attention. Running around brandishing firearms, rubber or otherwise, is likely to get you shot at.

"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all" Mario Savio |
