Boom! Leman Russ Commander

I was playing some Call of Duty this morning, and was winning when I got verbally attacked for being a "try hard", as in, trying hard to win. I don't understand how trying to win...a game...has become a negative thing, as long as you are not cheating or being a bad sport. Is this a ramifaction of the whole not keeping score at T ball or soccer mentality? For the record, I was just running around with a f2000 gun, one of the weaker ones...
From playing in tournaments over the past 10 years I have something like 25+ Best Sportsman awards....so I don't think I am a douche bag.
Later on, I got called out for "camping" by someone using the most hated skill combo in the game ( marathon pro, lightweight pro, commando pro....basically you run around and knife people very quickly). So, apparently, using strategy and tactics is also frowned upon by the videogame community. ( yes, I was sort of camping. I was in an area, set up claymores, then patrolled the same area...)
I got called out one night by a guy...." If you were in Maryland, I'd kick your ass" Me:"Where in Maryland are you?" Him "Westminster"Me: "I'm in Bel Air....let's meet halfway in Towson" Him "Uhh uhh uhh....".
No one in 40K likes playing a WAAC guy with a gimmick army, but I have seen guys who get upset losing to a weaker army because the weaker player is using strategy and tactics. It is almost like in video games and 40k there is this belief that the game is an old west gunfight or a boxing match where you have to stand toe to toe with your opponent.
Could this be a by product of anti-intellectualism?
If the GW ruleset had not gotten so bad, I'd concentrate on Warhammer again and give up videogaming.

Don't Worry. I use Riot Shield, Ninja, Cold Blooded, Marathon, and a M1014 with a Silencer.
People scream at me for being cheap. I get MAYBE 10 (plus or minus 3) kills a game, and they yell at me for being a support class.
Idiots.

Marathon, Lightwweight, and Commando are perfectly valid IMO...
If people are gonna run around with 1-shot-kill sniper rifles and hunt me like i am some kind of sport i will run around with a sharp pointy object and show them the error of their trickshotting ways.
Tit for tat.

That's just the COD culture. I've been called a "hacker" more times than I can count. I'll run something pretty optimised for my role. (UMP45SD, Marathon, Stopping, Commando as a flanker/rusher) or (L86, Claymore, Scavenger, Stopping, as a lone flank Defender)
I'll even experiment with kits (FALSD, Cold Blood, Stinger as a backfield anti-killstreak) and I'll get called a hacker. COD kiddos are sore losers and no matter who kills them with what kit, they're gonna start calling someone names. It's the mentality that it is not their fault for dying, it's your fault for killing them. They obviously don't look at what they're doing wrong, or how they can approach their in-game situation differently, but instead lash out and get angry at the person who killed them. This is the exact reason they don't improve as a player, and thus, they're getting killed.
For example, if I encountered a person with a camper kit, silenced weapon with heartbeat, coldblood, 2 claymores sitting around in smart locations, whom I couldn't take out by myself, I probably too would get a little frustrated. But, that frustration would lead me to try a different route. I'd probably back off and fight in another district while informing my team to stay away from that zone, which will bore his out of his hiding spot (boredom is a powerful weapon in these games.) Or, we can all rush him with nades, semtex, and stuns to flush him out. Point being, is that a smart camper can usually trump a smart rusher, so I chose to use my frustration to develop my gaming tactics.
Remember, when it comes to online gaming, it's just people throwing their e-peens around, trying to act tough because they're frustrated that they're losing, or dying. Take it easy, and remember that they're saying these things specifically to piss you off because their ego was hurt.

If you do get stressed out or annoyed at people on CoD, i found that the easiest thing to do is just hide for entire matches at a time.
Don't kill people, don't move, just watch them.

I know I do that every so often. It gives you a good chance to see how much traffic goes through a particular part of the field. You'll always find cold spots with not much traffic (near the church in Wasteland, the large two-story building with a courtyard in Invasion, or the log cabin next to the village in Derailed) and even frozen spots that see traffic once in a blue moon (the power station in Estate, the Russian spawnzone in Subbase, or the Insurgent spawnzone in Karachi.)

When I begin a round of COD on the PC I start off by muting every microphone on my team.
When I begin a round of Xbox COD I unplug the headphones.
Yes, to these people with the minds of a young child, unless you are beating them by raw reaction time and an aim honed by many weeks of hiding in your parent's basement or natural talent, there is something dishonorable going on. Hitting them when they don't have a hope of hitting back isn't fair. Using teamwork against their one man awesome spree isn't fair. Having a quartet of M203 grenades hit them when they've been "I'm Awesome!" sniping in the same spot for an hour isn't fair.
Pay them no mind, and then do whatever you are doing (It's clearly working.) And then do it -harder.-
If it makes you feel any better, a lot of these COD players aren't any better on the real life side of things. Take an AR15 to a public firing range sometime. It's hilarious, or sad.
...Also, M4 + M203 + scavenger, danger close and steady aim. I like picking up the tiny blue backpacks and firing the M203 indirect like a mortar. Once you get range down on where spawn points, major camping points, and high traffic areas are...well...I don't have many occasions to laugh for a half hour, but this is one. Nothing like getting a quad kill off a grenade fired at a 60-70 degree angle on wasteland.

Don't even get me started about the quick scopers lol. I don't mind getting sniped from someone in a position from far away...but that Quick shot thing is ridiculous. And yes I can't do it so I have sour grapes lol.

I'd have to agree. There really isn't anything wrong with trying to win. Use whatever you want in a game like this. I never listen to what the other players have to say anyway. I knife a lot in MW2, I think it is fun even though I suck with it. The best I've gone is like 16/11, and yet I'm sure people still get pissed off at me for using it.
